Pl suggest a standalone PDA which is not a mobile phone, since I am already having a high end mobile without office applications.
Camera, MP3, etc are not necessary. I need to store MS Word, Excel documents in this PDA. I must have facility to edit Word, excel files, also must be able to create new files.

Pl suggest models which are available in india, if possible mention their prices.

Hewlett-Packard has the HP iPAQ 100 Classic Handheld (http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/in/en/ho/WF05a/1090709-1113753-1113753-1113753-1117925-80593253.html) available in India. They sell for 299USD so using XE currency conversion you would be looking at 11,738.74 INR right now. There is no way to avoid having a MP3 player on a Widows Mobile PDA but I think you'll love the built in Office Software to work with your Word and Excel files. I also think you'll like the 3.5 inch screen.

If you can find a Dell Axim x51v in good shape (out of production, but still great specs such as 256MB RAM, VGA and 3.7'' display), it fits your bill.

The proof that this device is so good is that even now a used one costs just a bit less than what a new one used to cost two years ago. I hope mine lasts a long time.

For what it seems that he wants, the HP 100 would fit the bill perfectly. Unless there is a want or need for the X51v's VGA display and graphics accelerator I would pass on it. I have one, and it's a great device, but the extra hardware and horsepower takes its toll on battery life.
