http://www.iliumsoft.com/site/ew/ew_60.php

eWallet 6.0 has been released today for the Pocket PC, desktop, Smartphone and a few other devices. As usual, nothing revolutionary but a enough new features to keep it the top electronic wallet on the Windows Mobile platform. New features include, but are not limited to:

• 256-bit AES FIPS encryption, the method required by US government agencies
• Automatic backups - tell eWallet to create a backup of your wallet file each time you close or lock the program
• Sync securely to remote locations from your desktop eWallet using SFTP synchronization and new remote syncing options
• Insert and encrypt files that you can easily extract when you need them. :way to go: Unfortunately, it doesn't compress the file, so using this too much can cause your eWallet file to increase quite a bit.
• Beta program starts today allowing you to get your eWallet info on any web-enabled device, like an iPhone, Blackberry or Wii. See Ilium's site for more info on this.

The desktop version of eWallet 6 can also open and convert FlexWallet files to the new eWallet format, and eWallet will allow you to see your card in either the eWallet or FlexWallet style. eWallet 5 users are eligible for a free upgrade if you purchased your copy after September 17, 2007. Both eWallet and FlexWallet users will get emails with instructions on how to get upgrades, whether they are free or at a discount if purchased before the eligibility dates.

WOW....as a longtime Flex Wallet user, this is a BIG deal. Interesting to see how my upgrade / conversion process will go, but I have good past experience with Ilium Software (like WebIS and Two Peaks before them), so I'm hopeful this will be a good thing.

Hey brianchris! We've worked very hard to make this a good experience for FlexWallet users. We know it's tough to make a change like this and we hope we've made it easy. If you (or anyone else) has any trouble at all, we encourage you to contact us. We're ready to help and want to do whatever we can to make sure this is a positive experience for everyone.

Does ewallet fill the forms for you on the desktop AND the pocket pc versions?

I found roboform and have used that for years, but it doesn't look like they are coming out with a pocketpc product anytime soon that fills the forms for you.

Sorry djthomas. It doesn't do that right now, but we are looking very close at good ways to do it in the future.

The upgrade price seems steep for what you get. We already payed $30 for Flexwallet. From what I have read so far, I can't see enough improvements for another $17.

I am not trying to slam the software. I'm just giving my 2 cents.

Well, it isn't mandatory that you upgrade. I am sure there are still eWallet 4 users happy with what that version did. For those that like the new features (the file encryption is especially attrractive to me) there is a discount available.

But I have other software I do not have the latest version of because older version work just fine for me, or aren't missing any features I want, so I may be 1-2 versions behind on those.

Same here, Flexwallet 2006 does what I need it to do, and the new features aren't compelling enough at this point to upgrade, but for anyone who doesn't have an electronic wallet yet, I highly recommend Flexwallet/eWallet!

We've always supported the decision to not upgrade. Sometimes the new feature set in a product just doesn't include things you need. I will add, however, that with eWallet there are features that, while not new to eWallet, are new for FlexWallet users (beyond the 6.0 updates). The features may or may not change your mind, but I wanted to make sure to mention them.

These include:

* Sync your info where you want - to any PC, Windows Mobile or Palm OS device, USB thumb drive, a laptop, even your server at work - there is no limit
* Sync securely to remote locations using SFTP and other remote syncing options
* Access your data from remote computers using Iomega iStorage
* Prevent intrusion by locking your wallet after a certain number of failed login attempts
* Make online purchases safely! With eWallet's SmartCopy your credit cards and personal info won't be left in the clipboard for keyloggers to find
* Fill in passwords online without typing using AutoPass - protect yourself from keyboard logging in an easy and secure way
* Personalize your cards with background images
* Customize the card design with options for displaying icons on the card, square or round corners, card borders, and more!
* Use eWallet on your U3 USB Smartdrives
* Get Step-by-Step Instructions for basic tasks with the eWallet Companion
* Four free icon packs
* eWallet for Palm OS

There are also features missing going from flexwallet -> eWallet

- Fully customisable templates (big one for me)
- slower startup
- I seem to have to close twice, as closing closes the current wallet then you have to close the app (minor but annoying).
- Auto unmask passwords, once you log in on the pda can unmask all passwords.

I will also just stick with flexwallet..

Working on that one now. You should have customization at the same level as FlexWallet had by mid-2008.

slower startup

This has been traced to using large numbers of icons. Not everyone sees it but it can be annoying for those who do. We're working for a 6.0.1 fix for this issue.

- I seem to have to close twice, as closing closes the current wallet then you have to close the app (minor but annoying).

This shouldn't be true at all. What make and model of device do you use? I ask because if you lock a wallet, that locks the wallet and closes (TRULY closes...not just hides it) the program. One click.

Auto unmask passwords, once you log in on the pda can unmask all passwords.

We don't have a global setting for this, but in the Appearance tab of the card properties for a card, you can actually set passwords to SHOW as default. Once this is on you get the exact experience you've described.

Hope this helps to at least answer the questions (and maybe change your mind.)

Man...I just upgraded in mid August! Looks like I missed the free upgrade window.

I like the SFTP option. Is this for the desktop version only, or does SFTP sync apply to the WM app as well?

You can still only sync to remote locations from the desktop (for now anyhow!)

No problem. Secure sync is enough for me to upgrade. I just made the purchase, but I guess I have to wait until I receive an email with the license key before I can test out 6.0.

I have the same issue -- a two step close. I use a hx2795.

As I mentioned above, just clicking lock will completely close the wallet and the program (truly close it, not just send it to the background.) There should be no need for a two step close.

Got it....I'm too used to hitting the "X". Thanks.

I purchased my eWallet Upgrade from FlexWallet. Here's my observations so far:

-Import of my FlexWallet files went flawlessly (I was really impressed....was expecting problems here).
-One of my two wallet files has an alphanumeric password, yet, upon opening on the Pocket PC, I get presented with a numeric keypad.....is this by design? (just curious, as I just call up the on screen keyboard).
-On the PPC, it does take a bit longer to open than Flex Wallet, and I'm not using any custom icons (unless the Flex Wallet icon pack is considered custom icons).
-I do miss the global password unmask feature, but agree its easy to just tap the password you want to see.
-I can't find the global "Flex View" option, so I'm not sure which view I have.
-You are correct that hitting the lock is a one step close, but before you mentioned that, I too was closing using the OK button, and then having to close the file chooser screen....its just what us Flex Wallet users were used too....probably not a big deal....we'll adjust ;)
-Is there anyway to configure to have the eWallet choose a file screen appear at startup? (This would be handy for those of us with multiple wallet files).
-Love the ability to lock down a file after X number of password attempts.
-Didn't realize custom templates is not present....looking forward to getting that back soon!

Overall, I'm glad I upgraded, but understand that some may not feel the need to.

Once I figured out that I needed to convert my Flex Wallet file on the PC not the PPC  the conversion was seamless. :D I too was frustrated by the two-step process to close out but I see from reading that I'll have to modify my habit of closing with SmartSkey.

Thanks for the input brianchris! I'm glad to hear that overall, you're liking eWallet!

One of my two wallet files has an alphanumeric password, yet, upon opening on the Pocket PC, I get presented with a numeric keypad.....is this by design? (just curious, as I just call up the on screen keyboard).

Yep. We allow alpha entry using onscreen keys and hardware, but that is just the default. A lot of folks like to use a simple numeric password so this just makes life easier for them.

I do miss the global password unmask feature, but agree its easy to just tap the password you want to see.

And I may have mentioned here that you can change the settings by card in the Appearance tab of the card properties.

I can't find the global "Flex View" option, so I'm not sure which view I have.

Open and view a card on your Pocket PC, and select Menu->Options->Use Flex View.

Is there anyway to configure to have the eWallet choose a file screen appear at startup? (This would be handy for those of us with multiple wallet files).

No. There was before 5.0 but what we found is that the majority of folks have one wallet and they got confused by the "doc list" that showed the wallets. Now we automatically open the last wallet you used which has cut down on support calls in this area immensely. Send us your suggestions and gripes though! That's a big part of how we decide on changes.

Didn't realize custom templates is not present....looking forward to getting that back soon!

Well, that isn't compeltely accurate. First, we ported all your custom templates into the eWallet template file, including customized field types. They are all there and available for use. Second, you can create your own templates in eWallet by renaming the fields for a card and then saving the result as a template. More template options are coming Q2/Q3 2008 though.

Thanks for the great comments. And to everyone, always feel free to send us your thoughts. Like I said, we put a lot of weight on the comments we receive from out customers when choosing new features.

Sorry, for some reason I thought this was a global setting. Besides, it *appears* that if you imported from FlexWallet, the *default* is "FlexView?"

Just thought it could be on option (with default set to NOT show the "file chooser" upon opening. Who wouldn't like that?

Very true...my existing custom fields did import from Flex Wallet. And as for creating custom templetes now, glad to know we can do it.....just sounded like you acknowledged we couldn't in an earlier reply to someone else in this thread. Looking forward to future custom template improvements!

Thanks again!

I was hoping you guys would add this to the next version (i.e. this one). I'm trying to stay in sync between my desktop, laptop, WM5 PPC and a U3 flash drive. It's kind of a spaghetti tangle of who syncs to whom, who is currently attached, etc. What would give me better flexibility is to be able to keep a single master file on an ftp site that each of the others tries to sync with on startup and shutdown. Of course, if the device isn't online at the time, it should gracefully skip the sync. Anyway, I'd sure appreciate it if you'd put in a word for this feature.

Does the auto pass feature work on the mobile device itself or just on the windows desktop like version 4? This is a truely great feature that I wished worked on windows and palmos devices. I have version 4, and this would seriously make me upgrade. Thanks

No, not on the device. :|
