What could possibly outshine a device that's widely regarded as one of the best yet? Well dear readers, about 3 weeks ago a very special device landed on my desk, a device which I'm nicknaming "the Kaiser killer"! The device in question is the Asus P750, some details of which first leaked a few months back. Little in the way of concrete information has surfaced since then but today we're going to change that and give you the full run down on what's set to be an awesome device."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/martin-20071010-Modaco_p750.jpg" /><br /><br /><br />Last week, <a href="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=56871">the:unwired</a> said the Asus P750 was now "somewhat official". Now, Alex aka nedge2k has managed to get a P750 to <a href="http://www.modaco.com/Exclusive-nedge-Previews-t260126.html">review for Modaco</a>. Don't head for your favorite online retailer just yet, though. In his review, Alex said it may hit online stores "<i>like Expansys within the next two months with network/carrier deals becoming available in Q1 of next year (most likely February). Pricing is a little vague at present but I'd expect it to go for a similar price as the Kaiser (£400-500 off-line).</i> Better save up your pennies, pence, and euros.

I don't see how can it compete with Kaiser. It looks nice, more like a phone than PDA Phone, but 64 mb RAM is not enough for multitasking. Newer applications for WM require more resources. It has a smaller screen. The only thing that is better than Tytn II is Intel's processor. I would say it is pretty average device, maybe good looking, but still average.

I absolutely agree with the above post. In the present time a 64MB RAM is just not acceptable.

The same thing has marred the recently announced Eten too as another prospective Kaiser killer.

Why is everything compared to Kaiser? Perhaps my question should be, what on earth does it have over the TyTN 1? A tilt screen ( )? A GPS (that is inferior to any other one out there)? More RAM? The extra weight? The fact that its 1mm thinner than the TyTN 1?

I have owned, and recently just sold, my TyTN. I am not a fan of keyboard sliders at all. Would rather be forced to use the screen than to have one. Kaiser to me looks like a half-upgrade, and yet it is touted as the best there is.

I can't wait for the X800 and Imate Ultimates come out so we all know what real devices are. Even this device looks nice, compact, and has no sliding parts. Not a bad effort at all....

For me, the Kaiser is the best available right now because it crams in every feature we have been looking for in a device for the past few years, sans VGA. So of course every other device is going to be compared to it.
Compared to the original TYTN, the Kaiser has a 3MP camera, tilt screen, is 3:mrgreen: mm thinner, has twice the RAM and ROM, uses a different processor, has built in GPS, and uses touchflo technology. To you, incremental upgrades, to me, substantial upgrades.

The x800 looks good on paper, but in person, I find it less appealing. And as for the Ultimates, yeah, let me know what you think of them when they finally debut Q4 2009 ;)

BTW, why is the GPS in the Kaiser inferior to any/every other out there? Can you please elaborate?

The gps in my TyTN II functions just as good if not better than my SIRF III bluetooth gps. And thanks to the a-gps data it gets a fix in 5 seconds or less. It doesn't seem inferior to me. Especially not in real world use.

Kaiser will be a tough one for anyone to "beat"... feature wise... great battery life, quick to lock built-in gps, wireless everything, and memory up the wazoo. The dual processor design uses an industry standard 400Mhz processor for PDA functions and a separate 150Mhz (?) processor for communication (radio) features. Kaiser is much snapier opening programs, files transfers over USB, no lag in menus and with so much available program memory you can actually leave programs running in the background without the device eventually crawling to a stop. Add a 6gb sdhc card for $65 and you've got an 'iphone beater' ;-)

FWIW: I just sold my TyTN (after 14-months) and love the slide-out keyboard design.

Regarding ASUS... one word "P50"...

Yeah, yeah...don't remind me. Worse than it never coming out would be it not working as promised. And given the delays, that could be very likely.

There have been plenty of reviews comparing it to SS3 and MTK (GPSPassion etc) and it hasn't stacked up too well. The chip is next to useless when it can't use its AGPS feature. And, you guessed it, the only place I use my GPS is in areas where there is no cell phone coverage, or where the cell phone coverage is poor. I use GIS mapping software rather than car nav software.

So yeah. I'll stick with a real GPS thanks.

Personally, I don't like keyboarded devices. They add extra weight (190g did I hear you say?) for a feature you can live without (well I can anyway :) ). The only keyboarded device I would consider would be a 7150 or an Omni where you at least can take advantage of the ease of use for web browsing etc through a nice, large VGA screen. But, neither of these devices are coming out in the next 6 months.

Actually, thats not true. I'd take a decent QWERTY bar phone...

My 2 cents :
I guess you mean the Kaiser GPS is inferior to any/every other out there if people use it like you, i.e. ONLY where the cell phone coverage is poor. I use it in navigation with or without cellular signal, which I guess more people use it this way. And my experience is that it is way better than my G.Sat BT359W. Cold start is way faster. 2 other friends with Kaiser also find it way better than their "REAL" GPS in navigation. Ok, we don't know much about GIS mapping software, but with car nav software, I don't agree that Kaiser GPS is "next" to useless!
As happy as I sound about the Kaiser, I have the QStarz BT-Q1000 Travel Recorder. This monster logs even faster and stays logged !!

I share the same user experience with my Kaiser as aguanaut. But why like most people compared to iphone. The 2 machines are meant for very people with very different tastes in mobile phone. If I am not allowed to sell the iphone, I won't even want one for free :-))
