It will play ringtones based on the category you have assigned to the contact. Head over to XDA Developers and give it a try. The download is a CAB file, so you can download and install it directly from the site.

I remember the old mtux.com having a ringtone manager that could do category ringtones. They were pretty useful, so I may head over and try this new software - can't argue with the price.

Now I just have to find enough ringtones for the 10 or so categories my contacts are in...
