The Kaiser Coming To T-Mobile US?

While the FCC documentation <i>might</i> be referring to the T-Mobile Vario III - the evidence is circumstantial, and FCC certification on its own is no indication that a device might be released in the US - it does gives a little hope to US Kaiser fans that you might actually see the device pretty soon on your shores without having to go through 3rd party importers.

If it is true, it is not going to happen anytime soon. There are AT&amp;T branded Kaisers offered through online stores such as Negri already .So ee will see ATT Tilts in ATT stores rather sooner than Vaios in T-Mobile's stores. As I understand to see its product through a carrier, Manufacturers have to sign some kind of exclusivity agreement. for at least 6 months to a year. Plus, maybe I've missed something, but I can't find official news release from T-Mobile on a purchase of 1700 mHz band. And why would T-Mobile need it if it has 1900 already? It can us it for its UMTS network and be compatible with European spectors, right?

T-Mobile bought the 1700Mhz spectrum in an auction not too long ago and has promised to make use of it for 3G. I bought a Kaiser (HTC TyTN II) last week and am using it with T-Mobile's EDGE service. If there is a firmware update to get the radio to support 1700, that would be awesome. If not, I will end up buying another phone! The T-Mobile data plan just can't be beat right now.

That doesn't mean anything. Some secrets are kept better than others. I say November at the latest. What examples do you have about this 6-12 month exclusive deal to hardware? Did the Wizard go through this? HTC is not in bed with AT&amp;T. I just think T-Mo is doing a good job in keeping this under wraps. I bet they will get the Kaiser. Not that I care, I am hoping the Juno has a faster processor. I just might end up getting the Cavalier if the Juno is still sporting the tired OMAP processor. But the more toys T-Mo get the better.

It happened. There was a big FCC spectrum auction not too long ago, and T-Mobile outlayed several billion dollars for enough new spectrum to cover the US.

No. European 3G is all 2100.

I am not going to quote replies above, but I see there's missunderstanding. So let me explain. As far as for new devices, nothing happens by itself. Carrier agrees to market new device to attract new customers. So if the device is hot, it gets more subscribers. To do that, carrier has to be "exclusive" retailer for the device. Examples? Iphone/AT&amp;T most recent, before there were Motorola Q, Palm 750w, with Verizon. You can argue different technologies But if device manufacturer wanted to it could make it and GSM and CDMA at the same time and sell it through your BestBuy or any other electronic store. The reason why OEM would go to carrier to market devices? After it spent a fortune on development and production, carrier will pick up marketing costs and support. Plus better feedback from users.
