Dubbed the Polaris -- we've heard rumblings and rumors since way back -- it stands out with Windows Mobile 6 Pro, a 3.5 inch VGA screen -- VGA, those three letters are music to our ears -- 256 / 128 MB ROM and RAM, GPS, 3 megapixel camera with autofocus, and quad-band GSM / GPRS / EDGE. HSDPA also figures here -- but will only be beaming to this set in the 2100MHz range -- with the rumored specs rounding out with a mention of a "digital compass" and FM radio."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/hisham-20070809-engadget_polaris_nike.jpg" /><br /><br />We've got two potential mockups? conjectures? of new HTC devices here. The device on the left purports to be a live shot of Polaris, the WM6 replacement for the Artemis that was released last year, with what appears to be significant specification upgrades. The second <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/08/08/is-htcs-p5500-nike-the-touch-ii/">(link here)</a> is the Nike, a replacement for the two-month old Touch with the addition of a sliding numeric keypad and a more rounded soapbar shape. Bear in mind these are as yet unconfirmed reports, though I'm sure we'll be hearing more in the next couple of months. In the meantime, dream and enjoy!

Maybe there's hope yet for those of us with not so great eyesight. I'd prefer a 4" screen and CDMA, but I could live with 3.5" and carrying a separate phone.

I think it wil be a long time, before we will see it comming to US. Antitrust law suit against Qualcom processors, lost by Qualcom will hold these devices off shore for long enough to look for something else.

I wouldn't pin my hopes on the Polaris having a 3.5" screen. It's based on the Artemis which is only large enough to accommodate a 2.8" display. So either these rumored specs are erroneous, or HTC has made the device considerably larger but kept the same design, which doesn't make much sense.

My instincts tell me this will be yet another device with a 2.8" QVGA screen (320x240), or a 2.8" VGA screen.

I've seen the Polaris listed in several places (including some official-looking PDFs) as having a 3.5" VGA screen.

I desire this device.

I do like my Touch, but the Polaris would add back everything I gave up in moving to a phone device, and add some perks, too (3G instead of GPRS, GPS, a compass?!, more RAM, twice the processor speed, etc.)

Unfortunately, my Touch has developed a patch of fog or dust under the screen, and HTC have confirmed they've had several reported cases of this. They were very helpful on the phone, though, and sound like they're going to be good about getting me a replacement quickly.

I hope Polaris will be as thin as possible and maybe not much bigger than current Artemis - I'm thinking IPhone like size...
And if all the other specs stay as rumored, this is going to be one sweet phone...

Anyone have an idea when the iMATE Ultimate line will be out. I like the specs at 520 Mghz, etc. but don't know much about iMATE's products or support in the US. Anyone have any help here?
