And from some leaked details and specs, HTC Omni sounded like a very interesting mobile gadget. Well, it looks that they were true. Today we’ve got our hands on what appears to be genuine HTC 2007 roadmap presentation with some rendered pictures and more detailed specs for HTC Omni. And we are impressed."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/parekh-20070708-HTCOmni.jpg" /><br /><br />Unwired View's got some (rumored) details of HTC's "Universal successor", and it does look like a cool device. WM6, UMTS/HSDPA, 800x480 display, TV/VGA out, 256MB ROM/128MB RAM (yay!) are amongst the highlight features. The unit is 5.1"x3.1"x.62", which is surprisingly thin (albeit still pretty large). No operating frequencies are listed, so I have no idea what continents it'll run on. Anyone interested in picking up one of these?

No word on processor and don't forget GPS

We'll need a little more details than just couple of rumored specs and computer rendering of suppossed device.

As for me, it basically comes down to how it will compare to Ultimate 7150...

Looks nice. GPS would help. :) I am sure the processor will be plenty fast. At least 400MHz to power that 3.5G data connection. Oh, and it MUST have USA network bands.

Then it will only come down to what i want.. Small like kaiser or large like omni.. hmmm...

Ditto on the GPS and quad-band GSM. Would also be nice if the display hinge was a Tablet PC-type, so you could rotate it down to cover the keyboard and have a semi-traditional PPC interface.

My guess is that this will be either ridiculously expensive, crippled by its carrier, or delayed in the US until the rest of the world has access to an improved version. About what I've come to expect from our sorry-ass mobile industry.

Well, keep in mind it is a high-end (and relatively large) device, and those generally don't move in the same quantities, so our carriers tend not to carry it. I'm guessing it'll be available unlocked, but who knows how much it'll cost. :(

I'm not as worried about the carrier issue, with HTC selling branded, unlocked devices now. For example, HTC Advantage at CompUSA for $900. Expensive, but that's a lot of hardware. I'd pay a few $100 more for the Omni...

wow this looks like a killer device to me.

I like the smaller form factor and the exterior display which makes this device a lot more useful as a phone. I suppose it is about as big as the Universal would be without the display part, which is acceptable for me.

HTC added some really nice features. The WVGA display must be gorgeous, GPS and video out is nice. Despite of that it looks like it is TouchFlo-capable, considering the screens appearance which looks like the Touchs' and the fact that I can't see any buttons on the outside, which is a great feature for me.

All-in-all a great phone, design seems to be nice, I just hope they improved the keyboard, I loved the keyboard of the old Psion and the HP Jornada 720.

By the way this device seems to be far superior to the devices of the Ultimate series, especially compared to its pendant the 7150, because I suppose it will be smaller than the Ultimate, has the better display and GPS, and of course, you profit from the experience HTC gathered over the last years.
And then there is an esthetic reason, I simply hate the Ultimate's colour.

So I'm definetly looking forward to this one and expect it to be my next device, I am just affraid it won't be that cheap;)

PS: I heard its processor will be a a TI OMAP @ 200 MHz, ..
Ok I'm just kidding the unwired says it will be a Samsung SC244X at 400 MHz in combination with Qualcomm MSM 7200 chipset, so I hope this will be enough.

I am absolutely interested in buying one of these. It will likely be either this or the IMate Ultimate that I have read a little about that will make me come back from BlackBerry. The Universal is still my absolute favorite Windows Mobile device ever and something similar that is also capable of accessing fast networks and maybe GPS would be perfect for me.

According to specs floating around the 7150 is smaller than Omni, both shorther and narrower, but a bit (2mm) thicker. I guess this is due to Omni having 4" WVGA display and 7150 only having 3,8" VGA...
But since there is no pictures of either of devices, and no record of anyone holding them, it's also a bit meaningless to compare them.
As for the colour - I'm pretty sure Omni will come in at least two colour variants, just like other HTC's devices.

Here's some pictures of the 7150.

Let me know what you guys think?

For some strange reason; I prefer the 7150 over the Omni, and I'm not sure why? Maybe because of the smaller form factor. But the Omni's resolution and Screen size does kick ass!

Yes you're right according to the specs the Ultimate is smaller than the Omni, but at least the dummy that was shown at 3GSM was not.

For example take a look at these pictures:
http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/3GSM-2007-On-site-Coverage-article-image-a_1773-p_8-i_12167.html

As you can see, the device is ways bigger than the HTC Wizard is, especially in length. According to the specs, the dimensions compared should look like this: http://sizeasy.com/page/size_comparison/3167-ultimate-7150-vs-HTC-Wizard

So I think the dimensions given by Imate must be wrong, I do not trust them at all. Also, if you consider the Ultimate's screen is 3,8", the device cant be that small.

I suppose the Omni will be about equal in size or even smaller, while it packs a lot more hardware goodies in it (and I personally prefer the Omnis design and HTCs knwoledge). By the way, TouchFlo seems to be confirmed according to pdadb.net as well as a 3,1 Mp cam and HSUPA support.

Wow, thats nice!!! this device looks more an more attractive to me... :D :D

You are quite right. I'm holding in my hand the Universal and the Wizard and the size difference is on par to the differences between Wizard and Ultimate, which would suggest the size of the 7150 to be something like HTC Universal, but more square like.

It's true that the pictures are showing a mock-up and not the "real" device and maybe iMate changed the size specs after the mock-up, but it is definatelly strange.

As for devices in general, I have to say that I do like the specifications of both, but given their size and design without any external keyboard makes the devices pretty much unusabe as "normal" phones. Even though they are smaller than HTC Advantage, they are not much more usabe at beeing a phone.
What I would want is something like Nokia communicator series but slimmer and with convertible design - with small external screen and keyboard such a device would be usable as a phone without opening it up.

Looks like an Iphone Extreme to me 8O

How comes, that everytime someone has a litle success with something, everyone else wants to look like it? :?

Some years ago, every PPC wanted to look like a Blackberry, with square screens, and thumb keyboards underneth, today they all want to look like an Ipod-Phoneedition, it su*** big time

I want a PPC, not a Palm, not a Blackberry, and deffinately not an Apple, but a WM6 PocketPC with quad band GSM/GPRS and/or UMTS or better, for "on the go" web connection, and maybe a QWERTY keyboard.
