New Dash User - Windows Messenger

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, so please bear with me, I recently purchased a T-Mobile Dash and have 2 questions:

If I remove the data plan from my account I should still be able to use the Built in WiFi at my Work right?

Also

When I use Windows Messenger over WiFi does it count against my SMS or Data usage?

Yes. The carrier can't control or disallow your WiFi usage.

No. Anything going over WiFi has no effect on your carrier account.

One More question, again sorry that this is the wrong place!

I'm not sure if Windows Messenger is using Data or SMS, It works with WiFi Enabled and Disabled but I'm connected to an EDGE connection regardless. Does anyone know from expierence what it uses? Thanks and Sorry!
