Read on to find out more. <!>

The Pocket PC veterans here may recall the days when SE_VGA and ozVGA were all the rage. They helped users maximize the potential of their device's VGA display, particularly while browsing the web. Sadly, these applications have failed to keep up with each successive version of Windows Mobile, so support has declined dramatically. Enter Internet Explorer Mobile's high-resolution browsing mode. Enabling it is a simple three-tap process. Launch Internet Explorer Mobile, and tap Menu > View > Use High Resolution.

The difference between the two browsing modes is paramount. You can go from this:

To this:

Of course, Internet Explorer Mobile is still a far cry from being a powerful mobile browser, but at least this is a step in the right direction.

Darius Wey is the News Editor at Pocket PC Thoughts. Not only WM6, but, some WM5 AKUs of HTC universal(obviously unofficial) offer native high resolution in IE mobile without using any kind of VGA-hack utility :)
I have been using this feature on my universal from quite some time
edit:aku 3.5 to be exact

Yeah, I have my beautiful Universal/Jasjar/v1640/Xda Exec/MDA Pro/You guys get the point, running WM6 and it has the option to use high resolution, I've had it on for so long that I orgot about it. It's definitely one of the best feature among many on my Uni. I'll never go back to a time without a VGA device!

The #1 reason for me to get the VGA JasJar was that you get to view webpages on your device as they were intended to view. The images and white space is half the size and can be replaced with the text that you increase in size to the point of usability.
Very nice. Spreadsheets are viewable too. I can't figure out for the life of me why the majority of people settle for QGA. They must not know what they're missing or the PDA's are little more than expensive organizers.

The problem is that every VGA devide they've come out with has had quirks that have prevented any of them from becoming huge hits ... as a result they've wrongly assumed that the isn't much demand for them.

While I wouldn't call devices with QVGA "junk", I pretty much agree here. If there was a VGA device that had the features that I wanted for a price close to an equivalent QVGA device (say within $50-$100), I'd probably get it.
That said, I'm pretty happy with my iPAQ hx2795 and Motorola Q "junk".

I installed this hacked AKU for the hx4700 http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=55843&highlight= and I noticed that PIE now has the Enable High Resolution. I haven't had a chance to really use it yet, and PIE is still incredibly slow and painful to use, but it is a step in the right direction.
