Simply dubbed the UMD (Ultra Mobile Device), this ultraportable supposedly pulled double duty as a smartphone and even played nice with HSDPA."

Unveiled at Computex a couple of weeks back, this Compal device is pretty intriguing especially since it first appeared in April as an Intel prototype for their Menlow platform to be released next year - our thoughts on that appeared here. The UMD however sports a Freescale ARM processor rather than an x86, so Vista and WinXP are out of the question. That and the need for better battery life may explain why the UMD runs WinCE, though why not Windows Mobile I'm not sure. In any case, the specs are damn nice with 256MB RAM and HSDPA.
