A new plugin is available at <a href="http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=196939">http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=196939</a>. That will let you download Youtube video directly to your PPC and play the flash file without conversion."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/hisham-20070529-pic_youtubelogo_123x63.gif" /><br /><br />Playing flash video content on Windows Mobile has always been an iffy proposition - the format used by YouTube and other video sharing sites was just not supported...until now. I've tried out the plugin from the link above, and it really does work (I tried the video of Judie's <a href="http://www.geardiary.com/2007/05/22/unboxing-the-htc-advantage-x7500/">HTC Advantage unboxing</a>). A couple of caveats though - this is a 0.1 release, so try at your own risk; and it requires TCPMP. Installation is simple enough, just put the two *.plg files in your TCPMP folder and start TCPMP. You can either use the included downloader for direct downloads of videos to your device, or just transfer any *.flv files that you've already downloaded to your computer to your WM device. Enuff Said - try it!

I'm an idiot, but I haven't ever used TCPMP. I've downloaded it, installed it, and transferred the files to the TCPMP file in Program files. Do I just use the internet explorer and access YouTube to watch the videos? It's not working to do it that way - how do I watch flash-based online video content with TCPMP? Thanks!

Along with the .flv plug ins, there was a little .exe file for downloading youtube files. That can be put in the program folder as well (or anywhere else I suppose). Use PIE to browse youtube.com, find the video you want and copy its url. Paste this link into little .exe application and download it to a folder.

Then open TCPMP, hit file open, find the .flv file you downloaded and click on it. It seems to work well. Hope this helps.

Just got RC1 of TCPMP 0.81, and it's great. I'd given up on TCPMP last year, when development seemed stopped for a long while and the commercial application CORE was released. I've been using CORE since... but looking at some YouTube videos today in 0.81 and using YouTubeDownloader, I've now uninstalled CORE. No need for it any more. While not so point-and-click easy as watching YouTube stuff on a PC, this is still pretty dead simple to use. And it's great being able to save the ones I like without any extra steps, such as I use on the PC - the VideoDownloader plugin for Firefox is okay, but a bit fussier to use. Developments like this make me glad I donated some bucks to Gabor back a while. Might just have to paypal him some more.

Where did you get version 0.81RC1? The official site still has version 0.72RC1, no more.

And googling for 0.81 yields talks about it from one year ago but no new version; some said it hadn't been released yet (2006).

Download sites like Softpedia lists 0.72 also.

BTW:
does the plugin also work with 0.72?

I found it via Google, actually, and by accident. I wasn't looking for TCPMP at all, but doing a search for a YouTube discussion on Slashdot from a few days ago, about the Heinz ketchup ad campaign. Couldn't remember where I'd seen the story actually, so rather than search a bunch of sites I googled... and came up with both that on Slashdot and a link to the plugin for TCPMP on a 'warez' site - though it's a free download from SourceForge. The tangled web of the Web is indeed strange. From there, I found a link to a gsmhacks discussion - apparently another warez site/forum - which provided a link to Release Candidate 0.81 of TCPMP.... but only for members... so I had to join GSMHacks.com in order to download it. As TCPMP was freeware/donateware, and as I'd donated $15 a while ago, it seemed not out of order to grab this one.

If anyone can find a little less icky way to go about downloading the latest TCPMP, great, I'll be glad to know it and share it. Unfortunately it seems not wise to start linking from PocketPCThoughts to GSMHacks threads directly - probably a violation of the Thoughts EULA, though I welcome a moderator's opinion. Anyway, that's probably enough info to get you going.

I use this to save them as mpeg's (check options in the program). Download this to your computer, save the YouTube videos and then copy them to your storage card. Voila!

Sorry to be a bit dim  on this, but how do you install the plug-ins?

I downloaded the 2 zip files to my PC desktop and copied to my TCPMP folder on my PPC. I then tapped on the zip file and it seemed to open the file explorer.

Can any explain what I should do? Thanks in advance.

Exit TCPMP and drop the two .plg files into the folder and then run TCPMP. that is all you need to do. :)

Hi, I'm Elie Rodrigue, one of the Hubdog developper.
Just one word to tell your that we recently put on our developper blog page, a Hubdog build that download youtube flv file using a youtube feed.

If you want to try this feature before its officially released, head to http://www.hubdog.com/devblog/ and download the latest standard build.

All download files plays great with TCPMP and the newly released flv plugin!!

Here's a quick reference to youtube rss feeds :
If you want to generate a feed based on a keyword, lets say your keyword is “hubdog” :

If you want to generate to feed of all the videos posted by a user (let’s use my user, ElieRodrigue)

the downloader doesn't work if video has a warning page requires u to click Confirm before watching.

I can confirm that this works with the smartphone!

Using Moto Q, WM5 with TCPMP 0.72RC1 and flv plugins, I can watch most flv files, ie from youtube and even some downloaded from photobucket. I have not tried webshots videos yet.

Now I can carry inane rantings of emo freaks everywhere I go.

Is there a method to download youtube videos directly on the smartphone? The Pocket PC has a copy/paste function which I sorely miss on the Smartphone.

0.81 is a hacked, not recommended version. Stick with the last official version, 0.72 RC1. Flash playback works great under it.

ya, like i said 3 posts above urs, i got this error whenever attempt to dl the flv wit warning page.

i thought this could hlp me on viewing some in-country developed films during my commute time, but since most of them got tat warning page (just bcos of local dialect is used ) so this lil prog does not help in such a way but it does help for me to view other contents.

I copied a few video URLs into the little app and always get "Invalid Returned Link!" I tried both the desktop and the PPC version. Same results.

Downloaded all the approprate software, and all seem to be working. The download seems to work, but when I go to play the video, I get a "Unknown File Format" message.
What URL should I be downloading? :?: :?:

i read thru your post, but didn't see where u particularly mentioned bout this issue... the way u guided in the post is the way i use to download unrestricted youtube videos, but it didn't work for vidoes with warning page.

here's 1 of the examples where u get a verify age page sounds like this before u able to view the video:

This video may contain content that is inappropriate for some users, as flagged by YouTube's user community.

By clicking "Confirm", you are agreeing that all videos flagged by the YouTube community will be viewable by this account.

Please read my above-linked tutorial, it explains EVERYTHING.

To call me a novice would be an understatement. I do, however, use YouTube for my own little propaganda purposes &amp; have always wanted a way to access my videos - and those of others - without having to carry the files around in my PPC.

Your tutorial solved this for me &amp; I registered with this forum just to express my gratitude! THANK YOU! :werenotworthy:

The only hiccup I had was that when I read the tutorial, I didn't realize that one of the "tcpmpflv..." files was the YouTubeDownloader you referred to later in the tutorial. Once I figured that out, it couldn't have been any easier!

Again, THANK YOU!!!

Hi,
I cant find the .exe program that allows you to download videos...

Tapping YouTube's video links while browsing/searching the site in Pocket IE should bring up a menu offering to download the video, watch it, or go to the page. If you choose to download yiu'll probably want to rename the file in the Save As... dialogue, to something like subject.flv, then choose a memory card location to save to.

If the menu duesn't pop up with YouTube links, either ycur installation is broken or you are using a WM2003SE or earlier device. Older devices are not supported.
