Most charging stations like the ReSource, KangaRoom, the Brookstone Charging Valet or "Frontgate" Charging Stations are really power strips in disguise and use the bulk of the charging station to hide all of those superfluous wires that clutter our homes and our environment. Read about our new green initiative here. Environmental concerns aside, a power strip contained inside a box is a bad idea. The chargers (i.e. where the circuit is) get very hot and the heat can damage the chargers themselves, the devices, or, in extreme circumstances, may catch on fire. Our solution leaves nothing to overheat in the station because the power circuit is OUTSIDE the box (ie. It's the part that plugs into the wall). Our clean, simple, cutting-edge design also takes TipExchange to the max as tips can be rotated in and out for maximum flexibility."

I used Gomadic cables quite a few years ago, then I started using PPC Techs cables...but this charging station and the Gomadic tip-swapping system may bring me back in a hurry. I think this thing looks great, and I'm especially impressed to see that they have a Zune tip along with the usual tips for various Pocket PCs, Smartphones, and other MP3 players. I'll be watching this product very carefully!

I had previously been considering the alternatives but now I'm thinking I'll eventually grab one of these, simply because I already have and enjoy several other Gomadic products. The only issue I have with it is the fact that I prefer to be able to simply drop a device into a cradle rather than trying to line up a cable with the charging port on the device when charging/syncing it.

I like the suggestion posted underneath the main post ... make it a USB hub++charge-station, that way devices can sync with the PC too :-)
