Symantec to Release Updated Mobile Security Tools

Both versions will be available May 29, a company spokesman said Monday."</i><br /><br />I've got two quick comments on this: <li> While the antivirus is unnecessary for most applications, it may be handy for handling email attachments -- something that's increasingly used in corporate environments. More importantly, though, I think some of the other features (especially remote admin) may be of interest to enterprises.<br /><li> I'm not sure I trust Symantec to release a piece of reliable security management software that doesn't slow down the system significantly. Bottom-line: enterprise folks who have existing investments in Symantec product may be very interested in this. My take, however, is that consumers may want to skip right over it.

Is it true that Symantec will be offering the tech equivalent of a cardiac catheterization for computers loaded with it's software?

A victim of it's own success, the utilities packages from Symantec need major overhauls to remove the performance sucking aspects and return the company to the leading edge position it used to have.

The difference in computer performance is astounding once their products are removed - and that is not an easy task either.

I gave up on SystemWorks last year and haven't looked back.

I bought a copy of Windows Live OneCare (on sale - $19.95) and I am very happy with it - I like the fact that it does virtually all of it's work with little or no resource drain.

One caution, switching from a Norton/Symantec product can prove difficult. Completely removing the Norton products can be troublesome - requiring technical assistance.

Another nice feature about OneCare - the package authorizes installation on up to (3) computers!!!
