PDA+GPS... what to expect?

I'm totally new to the whole GPS thing and I have never used it before. I plan on getting a PDA (Sprint 6800, when it's finally released) and a Bluetooth GPS Receiver (Holux 240 is what I have in mind at the moment) for GPS navigation. I'm mainly gonna use it when for my upcoming coast-to-coast road trip and while in a new city.

Is there anything I need to know or be aware of with this kind of GPS navigation setup (in general and as opposed to a all-in-one car solution like TomTom 910 or OEM in-dash navigation systems)??

TIAThe only real difference you'll find is (as opposed to an in-dash system)

The need to mount it properly.
Audio directiong may not be loud enough over traffic and other noise
The need for external power for extended periods of time.

Overall I've compared in dash systems in the Escalade and Volvo and wouldn't trade.

Be sure to do a careful comparison of the various GPS software applications. They have the same core capabilities, but differ when it comes to things like saving routes ahead of time or using more than one waypoint in a route.

A good starting point is www.gpspassion.com, although some of the info there is getting kinda old.

I ultimately chose Mapopolis, mostly because it lets you use multiple waypoints to customize a route, then lets you save and retrieve it. But, they've ended all retail sales, so you'll need to look for those features elsewhere.
