Paul at mrpalm.com has had a chance to look at the Elf, write up a bit about it, and take quite a few pictures (both of the device and comparison shots). The text is non-english, however the pictures tell the tale nicely. Now if this device just had a bit more under the hood...

Shoot, I like it! It looks good enough to me that I'd be willing to take a hit on some of the features just to get those good looks.
I suppose it's never coming here, though....

This is another example of HTC's complacency w/ their failing monopoly on Pocket PC phones. They have kept the same processor OMAP 201mhz for the past 2 years and are now introducing this stupid phone w/ the same processor. LG, I-Mate, Samsung, etc. will be overtaking them very soon w/ the upcoming influx of new ms pocketpc and smartphones. HTC's downfall will come soon with the big names coming in.

I cannot quite agree with what was said about the processor here. Of course it is not enough for a highend device, but it fits perfect in a device like this (but I agree with what was said about HTC, there is a lack of innovation in the highend segment, or at least their new models are missing some features like VGA).

The TI OMAP will have positive effects on the price, which is a very relevant point as this elf is targeted at the consumer market, not at business customers.

I can absolutely see a market for this device, and I think it is an intelligent move of HTC. A cheap, very small and good looking device is something that I have not yet seen in the WM (Professional) range of devices. I could imagine so many people that would be very happy with the elf.

I definetly think this will be a success.

That is why that slow processor is cheap because nobody wants it.

The problem with that statement is that Consumers would expect form this device more than from your regular cell phone. That means they would want to customize it with 3rd party software, such as games, media players, themes, and other useful and fun staff. That of course, OMAP won't be able to handle. (I know from personal experience, watching few of my friends who both WM PPC and "saved" with OMAP.) And the sad part is, they blame OS for that, saying that anything from Microsoft is POS, and they were fools swiching from their Razors and Nokias.
So, the buttom line is HTC does a bad service to Microsoft and to consumers trying to cash in with cheap processors and Nice OS
