I had no problems downloading and installing the upgrades. That said, several folks at the E-TEN User Forums are reporting downloading problems, primarily server-related more than anything else, so you're not alone. I suggest you try again later.

Some notes on my upgrading...

i used an FTP client to get the file, NOT IE -- it kept reporting that the page could not be displayed, but the FTP client (Filezilla) got it fine.

Didn't work with my Vista machine, so I used my wife's with XP. Had some anxious moments when a thunderstorm raged through during the upgrade -- I just new the power would go out...

... but it didn't and all seems well.

Apps installed and running so far...

SPB Pocket Plus
SPB Finance
SPB Diary
Phatpad 4
Listpro
eWallet
Sprite Backup

I got an error from their site that says the version is not ready for downloading but we will prepare itas soon as possbile.

I'm not certain what's up with that. I may have to contact ETEN directly, as my M700 was one of those units they sent out to different sites for review.

how did you do this, and what was the address you used?

how did you do this, and what was the address you used?

ftp://202.153.196.8/

But the files are no longer there -- instead there's a message about how the FTP site wasn't secured and someone removed the files.

I still have the EXE for WWE

now, the FTP site is secured, but neither my IMEI/Action Key or my ETEN user name/password will get me to the site.

If you have the file, I'd appreciate a copy. PM me with a way to get to it, if you wouldn't mind...

Thanks!

Disclaimer:
This is a bit off-topic, since it's about the ETEN G500, but knowing about a user's experience with another one of the company's models might hold relevance to persons considering these models.

If only the G500/G500+ were getting the WM6 update I might consider ETEN as a "respectable" company.

However, with the G500's horrible radio, terrible Bluetooth volume (in fact, the entire Bluetooth implementation), and total lack of support for the device, I can't recommend ETEN as a company.

So, let the buyer beware: don't be tempted by ETEN... and if you really want to see what I'm talking about, I've got a used G500 that I'll sell you.

Well, with the new Glofiish devices, and with WM6, I say that E-TEN should be considered.

The latest ROM upgrade is working nicely with my M700 -- I still have to test and see if the Bluetooth pairing problem is resolved -- that was my only beef with this device.

Call volume is much better than my old Nokia...

All-in-all, I think this is great hardware -- I especially get a kick out of the GPS. Service is an unknown issue for me, but E-TEN keeps coming up with ROM updates, so I'm happy so far.

Assuming your pairing problem is the one I'm thinking of, I can happily report that it's been fixed. Other annoying bugs such as the slow display of the contents of the \Windows folder and the slow performance of the camera application have also been fixed. Incidentally, the camera application now allows you to geotag your photos, which is incredibly cool if you use a photo-sharing service that extracts the coordinate data and puts it to good use.

All in all, I'm pretty happy with the upgrade. Windows Mobile 6 works like a charm on the Glofiish.

I'm with Darius on this one. The download from the ETEN link provided went very smoothly and install went exactly as for the last ROM update. I haven't finished re-loading all my apps again, yet, but so far, things look pretty good.

I have to admit, Eten as been one of the most prolific vendors I've seen with ROM updates for their products, and each one has shown noticeable improvements over the last one.

E-TEN says M700 upgrade not officially ready...

http://www.etencorp.com/support/WM6/index.php

"WM6 upgrade for X500 is available NOW! M700 will not be available until May 23 due to the Microsoft OS certification process. We are sorry for keeping you waiting. "

Windows Mobile 6 works like a charm on the Glofiish.

Okay, correction: it works like a charm 99% of the time. There's a significant bug affecting upgraded X500s and M700s that use Windows Mobile's password feature. If you've enabled a password, and for whatever reason decide to take the battery out or run it flat, your device will not recognise your password the next time it prompts for it. Sadly, the only workaround is a hard reset.
