<i>"Announcements about Windows Mobile 6 upgrades are coming thick and fast. This time, there's both good news and bad news for E-Ten glofiish and HP iPaq users, respectively. In a press release, E-Ten announced that it will be upgrading its glofiish X500 and M700 devices to WM6. HP users, on the other hand, will not get WM6 upgrades for the iPaq hw6900, rw6800, rx4000 and rx5000 series of handhelds. The computer giant cited "the potential for long delays, as well as possible carry-over costs" to its customers as reasons for this decision."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20070505-wm.jpg" /><br /><br />E-TEN's upcoming Windows Mobile 6 updates <a href="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=54543">isn't news to us</a>, although <a href="http://asia.cnet.com/reviews/handhelds/0,39001709,62011618,00.htm">O2's Windows Mobile 6 updates</a> for the Atom Life, and possibly the Zinc, certainly is. Sadly, <a href="http://asia.cnet.com/reviews/handhelds/ontheradar/0,39050970,62011635,00.htm">HP is showing its customers the door</a>. Any iPAQ users here feeling a little blue?<br /><br /><b>Update:</b> Thanks to <a href="http://www.clintonfitch.com/">Clinton Fitch</a>, we've received confirmation that the Xda Zinc will indeed receive a Windows Mobile 6 update.

HP is showing its customers the door. Any iPAQ users here feeling a little blue?

I hope not, as anyone that was expecting HP to offer upgrades on their devices must have had their head in the ground for the last two years. :D

HP long ago abandoned this market. They are simply plastering their name badge on the side of OEM devices and hoping for a few sales at this point in time. It's pretty sad to see what HP did to the iPAQ name after aquiring Compaq. The original iPAQ's almost single handedly created a market for Pocket PC's and since HP's buy out they have seemed to do every thing possible to to kill the market. :(

HP even turns their successes into failures. Look at the 4100 series a few years ago. WiFi, bluetooth, 400mhz processo (a speed demon at the time) and the smallest thinnest package around, and they flat abandoned it for thicker, cluckier POS devices.

By now, I imagine HP has no toes left from constantly shooting themselves in the foot. :(

Although having been burned by HP's stance of not providing upgrades to the Jornada 560-series, I had entertained the idea of getting an hw6900-series phone.

Instead, I opted for a Treo 750 and now hoping that Palm and Cingular will release an update. :P

I definitely want some of the features of WM6 and the rumored HSPDA update for the 750. (Palm, Cingular: hint hint!)

can only say, I'm so very pleased that I dropped HP some time ago (when it became obvious that they don't care).

I was a LONG time HP supporter. But even I have decided they don't seem to have the interests of the customer at heart. I am very disappointed.

Then there is this story from France about HP's 2000 PPC's getting Wm6

Perhaps there is some hope in that they are re-branded HTC devices -- everyone knows about all the ROM-cooking going on there

Doesn't make any difference to me, my 6940 is fine as it is. Well other than the freezing up from time to time, but I'm sure it would do that whatever OS.

In any case, I'll only be using it until my MC35 arrives. Although this is WM5 as well, Symbol have a pretty good record with updates.

I am a long-time IPAQ user who always wanted to get the next available update. I had several good experiences, too. After Windows-Mobile 5.0 was made available for the hx4700 I realized that retrofitting is sometimes better left for old buildings and not PPCs - it was a nice thought but the results were disappointing, and I don't think it was because HP took shortcuts.

This is not the first time HP does the same and won't be the last.

I remember once on a similar occasion a user got banned because of unequivocally blaming this treatment and in fact "yelling" at people to move away to more serious companies. This happened years ago but he was banned so "hard" that a few months ago (and years after the ban) the guy asked if he could use his account again, just to post a comment once in a while or ask a question etc. The reply was "no" (seems the guy was extremely dangerous to the community, or was it to HP?).

Anyway, the guy was me (as you would have guessed) and I just wanted to post that in fact I am happy that my EDUCATED opinion gets a +1 each time I see such news (and is not unusual with HP) and I hope my extreme (?) attitude "saved" a few potential users back then from falling into the pit.

Don't bother banning this account, I don't plan using it. I would either return with my proper nickname or not at all.

Be happy. Buy something else.

Dude. Let it go. Walk away. Move on with your life.

You mean like you just did?
...or not at all.
Please, stop getting our hopes up.

the standalone PDA is nearly dead.. converged devices are what consumers are requesting..

I have my 2400 Ipaq for sale on craigslist, and so many people have been asking about my "phone" or how good is the GPS in it!

I only keep my other ipaq to run GPS software of my liking on it. I would never touch HP again for PPC devices. Long live the Compaq 3650!!

Now THAT's a surprice, and a nice one to :D

To make it perfect, they would build a cellphone, and VGA display, into the 2790, that would be nice and cool 8)

OK, enough daydreaming for to day
