Hey Everyone,

I have been out of the Pocket PC world for a while and just jumped back in. I got a Treo 700wx from Sprint and I was wondering if the technology had gotten to the point where one could use the camera on a pocket pc with either an instant messenger program's video feature or another type of video conferencing software.

I have been able to get "live" camera broadcasts using ORB (http://www.orb.com). It's pretty neat. And there is only about a (10) second lag time. That's with using the Treo on Sprint's Vision service.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Only problem with Portrait is that it is a technology demo for the most part. At this point it doesn't support any of the front side cameras, which would make it make sense for video conferencing applications. If you throw an SD camera in the slot that you can point at yourself, it is a bit more useful, but today's 3G capable devices don't tend to have SD slots, but rather mini and micro ones.

The technologuy is there to support what you want, but it is not real mature yet. Mostly, I believe, because the need is not clear, or the revenue picture hasn't hit the OEMs/carriers yet.

Interstingly enough, my JasJar (I-Mate version of the HTC Universal) has a video call button in the phone interface, and a front side camera. I can't test it though because the 3G supported on the device, isn't suppoirted in the US. Wrong band.

I don't think it will be long before two way real time video is mainstream.
