As much as I like quite a few of the extended features of Resco Explorer, it's the simple, solid way it handles tasks I like most. It's the fastest file manager I know for moving large objects to and from various media. When I want to copy out backups, 20MB each or more, I want it to happen quickly. I also appreciate seeing an accurate progress meter. Resco gives me what I want here.
FTP is another example of such reliability. I have a few FTP clients installed on my PC and on my PPC. My wife's website needs to be backed up whenever she, her site admin, or one of her bandmates make significant changes. Usually, trying with FTP Explorer, FireFTP, or other tools I tried on mine and her PC, the roughly 25MB of files stop transferring somewhere in the middle. With hundreds of files it'd be ridiculous to try and figure out what downloaded and what didn't, so we have to start over... except not with Resco. Every time I've tried, the whole website downloads without a glitch. It's a small bonus that a Pocket PC is able to do this, when she's got nothing but disdain for these devices.
ZIP handling is fast. I'm hoping it's even faster, closer to completely transparent with this version... best get going and install it and see for myself.

Is there an updated history file somewhere which specifically lists the additions/changes?
(I also find it funny that they list DES-56 as a "strong" encryption algorithm.)

Dang - I missed the opportunity for a free upgrade by about 7 days. Oh well, eventually I will test it out and see if it's worth upgrading for half price. I've been pretty happy with the 2005 version although I still prefer the free PHM RegEdit to Resco Explorer's registry editor (fewer "Are you sure you want to change this value?" screens).

If that is the main/only reason you prefer PHM you should know that you can disable absolutely every warning message resco gives you. :)
However, i do agree that i like PHM RegEdit better myself too. ;)
The reason i like PHM better is because you can add favorites! There are a few spots that i regularly go to make registry changes that i had favorites set for. this saves loads of time over trying to remember exactly where that key was or navigating all the way to it. :)
I am actually very impressed with the today plugin in this version. They even added a task manager to the plugin. there is a little task icon you can turn on or off. If you click it a menu comes up with all your running programs. it is very cool.
You can monitor the usual battery and memory stats and place shortcuts for programs and files right on the today page. For someone who does not have pocket plus or want to run the rather large today plugin this would be a nice alternative.

There are lots of nice little improvements in the file explorer too. There seems to have been a lot added to the network capabilities. There are a bunch of new setting for that.
There is a very cool status bar that you can turn on similar to the status bar in windows explorer with file count and size and such.
Over all it is a very nice upgrade.

PHM's registry editor was my favourite for years, but I finally uninstalled it a few months ago, as I'd stopped using it at all. Why? Sure, I had about 15 shortcuts saved and that was very handy. But Phillipe never got around to implementing import/export of values as REG files. I find that function of Reso vastly more useful. I have a folder with dozens of REG files, many being 'on/off' toggles for various binary values where it's sooo much easier to tap a REG file jhen tap 'Yes' to the 'Are you sure...' pop-up. I usually don't even open Resco to do these instant regedits, just File Explorer. If PHM had that, I'd still run it. Something friendly about the interface.
Am I the only one that isn't seeing the Compact today skin as either an option to select or even download & install?

You may download it from here:

Thanks for the link, but I aleady rolled back to v5.42, the new version seemed to cause my device to wake up a bit slower, somehow interrupting the wifi reconnection. Might just be my WM6 beta ROM, don't want to fight with it right now.
