I've been stuck in a few places with an Ethernet connection for my laptop, so I decided to set up my old PCMCIA Ethernet card. My laptop is just an old Toshiba Tecra Pentium 2. Yes, It runs Windows XP (SP2) just fine. No, I can't play Half-life 2, but I can make PowerPoint slides!

I got on D-link's website, downloaded the drivers, unzipped them, and popped in the card. Windows detected it, so i pointed it towards the drivers and it started to copy a few of them, when suddenly it stopped, saying "Windows cannot find the specified file".

Tried uninstalling, reinstalling, different slot, different set of drivers from DriverGuide, and it always says the same thing.

Aggravating!

Here is exactly what happens. Just as the wizard appears to finish copying "DLKRCP.sys", the wizard says...

There was a problem installing this hardware:
D-Link DFE-690TXD CardBus PC Card
An error occurred during the installation of the device
The System cannot find the file specified.

Click finish to close the wizard.

I never came across that issue myself, but a Google search (http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLD,GGLD:2004-44,GGLD:en&q=An+error+occurred+during+the+installation+of+the+device+The+System+cannot+find+the+file+specified) may turn up the information that can help you.

This article (http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-xp/235959-cannot-find-file-specified-during.html) looks like it might relate specifically with your problem.
