<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931621/en-us' target='_blank'>http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931621/en-us</a><br /><br /></div><i>"You try to synchronize content from Microsoft Windows Media Player 11 to a Microsoft Windows Mobile 5-based device with AKU 2.3 or a later AKU. When you do this, the phone connects. However, only the internal storage on the phone is available in Windows Media Player as a synchronization target. This issue occurs because the canonical name for Windows Mobile 5-based devices with AKU 2.3 and later AKUs is truncated in Microsoft Windows Media Device Manager. This hotfix eliminates a bug that causes this truncation to occur."</i><br /><br />A nasty little bug that may affect anyone who syncs from Media Player 11 to the latest and greatest WM 5 devices. If you've been experiencing these sorts of issues, check out the KB article and hopefully it will provide an end to your woe.

The hotfix linked in the KB article only refers to Vista and not XP. Would it be safe to run on XP systems?

John, the fix should be distributed via Windows Update as well. At least it happened to my Vista machines (Business and Ultimate) last week:

After I've installed the update, Windows aka Media Player 11 sees my storage cards again! :)

Running Vista Home Premium and the hotfix was not downloaded automatically [or I installed the hotfix before it got distributed via Win Update] I had to install it manually. http://bnycastro.blogspot.com/2007/03/tips-tricksmissing-storage-card-issue.html

I suggest the title be changed to mention Vista, WMDC, and WMP11 since I did not experience this problem with XP, AS, and WMP11. :)

This definitely affected me running XP home ever since upgrading to WM11.

efjay,
Can you try formatting your memory card and trying again?
