I intend to buy a new computer, not Windows.
Which one is best together with the Axim X51v? I
want to transfer files and install programs.

Will there be any problems with different text file
format (CR and LF versus CR or LF)?

I know this is a little out of topic for this forum but
if anybody could tell which one (Linux or Mac)
gives less trouble (surfing the web and updating)
I would be glad to hear about it.

A Mac would be better to sync to. Sync software for Linux is nearly nonexistant, whereas MissingSync provides pretty much full support.

Anders You could run virtual machines on both however this brings its own set of issues. Mac would be the way to go for sync but if sync'ing isn't an issue, the Linux is far more cost effective and doesn't really require investment in a new machine. Way cheaper.
