I'm new to this forum, and am wondering if I am doing something incorrectly. I have a Cingular 8525 and am using active sync 4.5. Everything seems to going well, except that ALL of my contacts are not being placed from outlook to the 8525. Any suggestions as to how I can fix this? :?:

I am using ActiveSync 4.2 so I may not be able to help you with specifics but there are some general things to look at.

When you say "ALL" of your contacts, do you mean that some are syncing and some are not? (I guess it is pretty obvious what you mean but what the heck, I will ask anyway)

How many contacts are we talking about? I don't know if there is a limit to the number of contacts that will sync or not. I am only syncing about 175 myself.

Are you storing your contacts in several folders?

If you are storing your contacts in several folders and only the main (default) contacts folder is syncing, then that is how it works. ActiveSync can not synchronize other folders.

If all your contacts are in the default contacts folder, then there may be some corruption in the data. Try moving half your contacts to another temporary folder and sync. If all goes well, move those contacts out and move the previously moved contacts back to the default contacts folder and sync. If the problem occurs with one half or the other, then there may be a corrupted contact in the problem half. Use trial and error to figure out which contact(s) are causing the problem.

Of course, the problem may be unrelated to anything I am saying here.

I remember reading about issues with ActiveSync 4.5 but I don't recall the specifics.

Do you have access to ActiveSync 4.2? It seems to be available here (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=7269173A-28BF-4CAC-A682-58D3233EFB4C&displaylang=en) and if all else fails, it might be worth a shot.

appreciate your advise.

It's syncing approximately 80% of my contacts, ie of 600 my 8525 has only 450. All contacts are in one folder. They were in two but I have consolidated them. The contacts that were missed, are not limited to the contents of those folders.

I was using 4.2 and upgraded to 4.5 with the same result.

Any other ideas.

Thanks

It would be nice if someone else in the forum who syncs 600 or more contacts would jump in here and just clarify that the number of contacts is not the issue, but I don't think that it is, unless you are running out of memory on your handheld.

Did you try to see if there was any corruption in the data?

Are you syncing to an Exchange Server or personal folders?

You could try to move all the contacts to a temp folder and sync, see if all the contacts on your handheld disappear then move them back and sync and see what the results are.

If there is corruption, sometimes exporting the data then importing it back can clear the corruption. If you do this, then back up your data because it could cause all your current contacts on your handheld to duplicate.

Deleting the ActiveSync partnership and then recreating it can sometimes resolve sync issues.

600 contacts is not the issue. I have over 1500 contacts that I sync. The problem I have found with not seeing contacts on my PDA phone is that they are usually are there but it is the way you may have them filed in Outlook. (IE: company name vs first name or last name) check to make sure all the contacts are filed the same or at least have a file as field active. If this dose not help change you filter on your Pocket PC and see if the missing contacts show up.

PC ActiveSync 5.0 > Help > Search > Outlook Contacts:
ActiveSync may not be able to synchronize an item for many different reasons. For example, if you are trying to access your Outlook information and the server is unavailable, your Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, or E-mail items cannot be synchronized.

A conflict could also occur because an item has been changed on both your device and your PC. For example, if you change a contact's information on your device, and without synchronizing make another change for the same contact on your PC, the two versions will conflict with each other the next time you synchronize. You can change settings to select the device or the PC as the default version, and ActiveSync will automatically replace the information on the other computer.

Links to additional suggestions to resolve the problem are included on the above page.

0X I'm having the same issue. I only have about 35 contacts. I even deleted all contacet from outlook and it still only syncs a few. I removed 4.2 which came with my phone and installed 4.5. Nothing seems to help.
