$7.95 for this type of software? How can you beat it? I downloaded and purchased it without hesitation.

Runs quite well on my Treo 750v! I'm very impressed with the new version.

That's where I looked first 8O and all I got was this...

so maybe I'll wait for it to go into trial and force me to add the reg key...? Do note I did not uninstall NB1.2 but installed over it. Here are some of my thoughts about NB2.0 and what could be improved for v2.5 or v3.0 (http://bnycastro.blogspot.com/2007/03/reviewilium-software-newsbreak-20.html)

Sounds like you've already got a full version installed and running! If you purchased an upgrade odds are you got a full version download at the end of the purchase process.

And great comments about 3.0 ideas! I've taken them and added them to the list of things we'll look at as possible features in the next version. Thanks!

I cannot get this thing to install, either to device or card storage, even when I boot into "safe bode" using Pocket Plus. It goes through the motions but then tells me installation was unsuccessful. :(

Any ideas?

EDIT: Also tried Cabinstall, to no effect.

@Marc Tassin: Wow you actually read my attempt at a review! I'm honored :)

@Underwater Mike: What device are you using? The website says it has to be PPC2003 or higher / Smartphone 2003 or higher. Are you having trouble with other apps or just NewsBreak 2.0 specifically? Sometimes I have this issue with other apps what I usually do is wait for Activesync to finish transfering the files and then disconnect my device before following the onscreen instructions for the install.

Using a Cingular 8125. I got FANTASTIC support from Ilium and worked out the issue, which was apparently with my specific device -- prolly some registry issue. Did a hard reset and everything's working well.

Great product and great company! :rock on dude!:

I was just thinking that it would be nice to flag and articles so that it could be put in to a 'flagged' category so that I could refer to them in the future. Does this capability exist? I may see something that I want to revisit but don't want to wade through all my articles to find it again.

I totally agree with this.. I am using the Smartphone version on my S620 and it seems to be really nice. I cant wait to get a Dataplan so I can update on the go.. esp. at the end of the month when I am Snowboarding out West in Panorama B.C.

Well worth the $7.95 - I purchased a copy this morning!

You can't do that now but I like that idea a lot. I'll definitely add that one to the list of things to think about for future versions!

I love the program so far....there is only one thing i didn't like....I wish it would have the ability to save the pictures for the different RSS feeds. For example, when I download the RSS feed for Gizmodo, I can only view the pictures when i am on the internet instead of it just downloading it and saving it with the rest of the article......is there any chance this might be an option in later versions?

I think this is by design [to have faster update speeds and less data costs if you are using GPRS/EDGE/UMTS to get the feeds] I agree that it would be nice to have an option for a particular feed to d/l the pics. So the user can decide which feeds he would like pics for.

I am getting the same problem. I downloaded the trial and it download ok but after a while I kept losing the channels after turning my device off.

I purchased the softwware for $6 on PocketGear and when i tried to download it again it indicates it is not possible to install. The same goes for SD card or main memory on my Windows mobile 5 iPAQ 2790.

I have done a hard reset without success but I would rather not do a clean reset yet on my device.

I guess I will also have to contact illums to sort this one out.

Absolutley drop us a line! I'm sure we can help you.

I wish it would have the ability to save the pictures for the different RSS feeds.

Not sure if I explained this here or elsewhere but here is the background behind this.

When NewsBreak first came out memory was an issue. Picture this. You've got 200 feeds (lots of people do). 100 of these have images in some of their headlines. Each of these feeds have around 10 headlines. You could end up with up to 1000 images stored on your device, not to mention the download time.

So, the way we set it up was to have it go out and grab the image whenever you read the feed.

OK...fast forward to now. Memory is much less of a problem than it was then and with massive storage cards a pile of images isn't an issue for most folks. The old plan really doesn't make as much sense as it did before.

"Why didn't you change it then??" I hear you ask.

The answer to that one is easy. Demand. We have a limited amount of time and resources to develop each product and we have to look really close at what users are screaming for. As we designed NewsBreak 2.0 the big yell was for PODCASTS!! So, that became our priority. Unfortunately, it meant that other things, like image caching, had to get shelved.

...for now.

We are looking at more options for this in the future. We made one change in 2.0 in that now you have to be actively connected to get the image. We did this because most people HATED the way NewsBreak would try to connect every time you looked at a feed with an image.

The moral of the story is that we totally agree and, while I can't say exactly when or how it will happen, we do expect to offer some new means of handling images in a future release.

If you're a PPC Thoughts subscriber, you can get a $7 discount on any Ilium title, bringing the grand total to $.95!

As we say in Minnesota, that's a good deal, then.

So the coupon's been fixed, then. ;)

I bought eWallet at the same time from the Ilium store and got a slightly better deal, though.

One other thing i wish they would add to this great program is the ability to go to the next article by pressing to the right on the keypad (or left to go to a previous article.) it does this on Spb Insight and is quite handy for viewing RSS feeds for Engadget and Gizmodo when you just want to see the headline and the picture, but not read the entire article. it is much faster that way instead of scrolling down....

Try going left and right. :) That will jump articles in Summary view and jump channels in headline view.

(Sorry for the slow reply! I just got back from CTIA!)
