http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/...tedPhoneId=2889

In traditional Verizon fashion, now that WM6 has been announced, Verizon finally has caught up with the previous stage: they've just released the 700wx, which is identical in all aspects to the 700w but has a much more adequate 64MB of RAM as opposed to the 700w's meager 32MB. Apparently, they've also (finally!) added tethering support.

The price is $399 with a 2-year contract, plus there's an additional $100 mail-in rebate, or $299. They're still selling the 700w, too (back stock?) for $389 and an additional $150 off (or $239). As a 700w user, though, I'd say that if you're interested in one of the two, definitely get the 700wx over the 700w -- it's well worth the price difference. Or... you could just wait for a WM6 device. ;) Me, I'm planning to wait -- it's not worth the money to upgrade to an older-OS device with just more RAM.

If you don't have a 700w, this is a great phone. If you do have a 700w (and in a long term contract,) I'm afraid this isn't such a great deal. I would almost rather not have it offered at all than have it dangle in front of me like that. Only a tease. I was on the phone with various levels of Verizon personnel trying to convince them to allow me to early upgrade but to no avail, even though many I spoke with at Verizon admitted that 32 Mb of RAM is not enough for a power user, almost making the swapout a break/fix issue. (Almost being the key word.)

Who said RAM is getting cheaper? By my calculations, to simply upgrade the RAM on my 700w, it would cost $19.38/MB (by going to the wx.)

By comparison, at $19.38/MB, getting a measly 128 MB upgrade on your random desktop PC would cost a whopping $2480.

For those of under contract, purchasing the 700wx would cost the full retail price, which is $620. :-(

I was almost tempted yesterday to upgrade my 700w to the wx, but decided against it. I have been dealing with the limitation of this w for this long I will wait it out for future upcoming WM6 devices. According the rep here in DC (taken with a grain of salt) the 700w and wx will not have a WM6 upgrade.

Agreed. I've reworded my post to make my opinion clearer.
