<img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20070215-toshg900disp.jpg" /><br /><br />Both <a href="http://akihabaranews.com/en/en/news-13286-3GSM+Live%3A+Toshiba+G900+live+photos%21.html">Akihabara News</a> and <a href="http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=3622">the::unwired</a> have posted a handful of pictures showing off the gorgeous 3" WVGA (800 x 480) touch screen of the recently-announced <a href="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/index.php?action=expand,53861">Toshiba G900</a>. Can you list any benefits of such a display? Less Today screen scrolling and widescreen DVD rips come to mind.

I am drooling, but it seems the fingerprint scanner is badly placed, between the screen and the keyboard. Wouldn't this mean that if you wanted to use the security, you'd have to open the device everytime you wanted to use it, even just to make a phone call? Or am I missing something?

That said, I'd still buy it in a heartbeat! It certainly beats the Iphone, IMO.

As a former Toshiba e740 owner...I'll never subject myself to a Toshiba PDA ever again.

It is very pretty and I love the fact that it's a widescreen. But even with that high resolution, I wish it was 4". Every time I pick up my 2.8" PPC6700 screen I realize how much I miss having a usable display.

I really really want this.
I just hope it won't be too expensive, like with Flame and Athena...

The wide screen (with keyboard) will make reading and editing documents on the go more easy.

Like others, I'd prefer a larger screen with this resolution. But mostly I am excited to see tha thte manufacturers have actually been paying attention, and they are beginning to release larger, higher definition screens.

Not everyone wants a postage-stamp screen!!!

As a former Toshiba e800 and current Toshiba e830 owner, I'll definitely consider another Toshiba PDA. Support is lacking but Toshiba has been innovative in the past. I just wish it was a 4" VGA screen.

according to here

http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&amp;id=707

it has Intel CPU at 400 mhz. moreover , it has 128 RAM , just wondering , would it be remodeled or be given a subversion with newer generation Marvell CPUs ??? :?:

It also said on pdadb.net that it's wifi is b,e what happened to g? I mean I know the need and use for e is increasing but I still want g, even if it doesn't yield high results. Maybe that new chip they were talking about where they integrate wifi, radio, and bt?

I agree. But I think they might have placed it there on purpose to protect it. I think if the fingerprint reader were on the outside it would be subject to scratches and might not work well, if at all.

I'm pretty sure you won't need to use the fingerprint reader every time you use/open the device. You'd just set it to "lock" after 10 or more minutes of inactivity.

This would be my MDA successor but I doubt we'll see it hit the US carriers anytime soon. And who would the service be through? Please don't let it be Verizon!!!

I sure do miss the 3" + screens and can't wait to get my hands on this.

I would like to see it with GPS, I am not sure if I want TV on my phone, but GPS would be helpful

as a past e740 short term owner(returned it after a couple of weeks, after reading the horror stories on net when seacrhing for support) but took the plung for the e750 using it for the past year, which is a dream compared e740. i would actually consider another toshiba. they are great ppc, supports crap, but then again it was there 1st gen units. this screen would be great for web browsing and video content would look great.

Since it's a GSM phone, that would make it T-Mobile or Cingular (AT&amp;T).

It also said on pdadb.net that it's wifi is b,e what happened to g?

pdadb.net also says that the Toshiba e800 doesn't have a jog dial, even though it does, so clearly they have some errors. I would take anything you read there with a grain of salt. It would be a shame though if the G900 lacks 802.11g WiFi and has its processor clocked down to 416MHz (also a shame that their new PDA is still using an Intel chip from 2004- this actually applies to all the PDA manufacturers. I can't believe iMate's so-called "ultimate" devices are still using the same 2004 chips too).

This is bothering me more and more. When I bought my E830 it was almost a year old. Now I've had it nearly 2 years. So why is it so hard to find any devices with

faster chips
more RAM
equal or better displays
better graphic chips
better battery life

Sure there have been advances, but most of those advances have been cenetered around adding phone and data features. There is nothing that yet sparkes significantly above the best devices of about 3 years ago - HP 4700, Toshiba E830, HTC Universal.

Well, for all the people who benefited from people like me owning Toshiba's POS e740, best of luck with a new device from them. If you want innovation from them, you should wait until they come out with the revised version of this device...y'know, after they've left their first set of customers hanging out to dry. Good luck with that. :bad-words:

pdadb.net doesn't even have my Toshiba Genio e550g, hard to find stateside. My old and broken e550g had a huge screen also a good 5 inches so everything to me is about the same now. that was a nice one.

There is support for 11g. Unfortunately, pdadb.net doesn't always publish correct information. You can check out the list of specs in Toshiba Europe's press release (http://www.toshiba-europe.com/mobile/Mobile2Live.aspx?WCI=PageNavigate&WCE=&WCU=%3bLANG%3d1%3bPID%3d173%3bPNT%3d0%3bSEC%3d8%3bTYP%3d12#).
