Hello All!

I hope I am in the right forum. My sob story goes as the following:

I just got the Cingular 8525 this week, the phone was working great with windows XP, I had to get a new computer (at work) and I now have Vista, ugh. So I am using the Windows mobile version with Vista. Now my phones doesnt work, I can dial out but as soon as I open contacts, it isnt working right. I can't go in and browse call history, if I am in that screen for over 5 seconds, it goes back to the main screen. I am missing all of the calls. I want to know if I can reset this phone in an attempt to avoid going back to the cingular store and dealing with that hassle. Has anyone had issues similar to this?

I apperciate anyones feedback and help. Its been a very bad week for me and technology. 8O

Regards
Sandra

sounds like the same thing that has been happening with the ipod and vista. i think the problem here lies in the new os and will hopefully be fixed in service pack 1 which they are already working on, and have been before it was even released. this problem with the ipod went as far as Steve jobs to tell people not to connect the ipod to a vista computer. when the zune first came out it wasn't vista compatible either, could be the same reasoning with removable drives, storage or other hardware in general.

Hey

I just upgraded to a cingular 8525, and I am running windows xp.
I guess my questions are the problems specifically related to the phone or to the laptop? or syncing both?

First, check to see if you have any 3rd party apps running in the background on you phone and disable them to see if this fixes your screen saver issues.

if that dosent fix it, hard reset should get you back. but you may lose all your contacts list and voice tags..

But, if you do a hard reset and cant sync with your laptop then you might be screwed.

I would start simple first. check on the laptop and see if active is installed and chatting with the phone. if it does, and the problems are phone related only remove the installed apps but dont do a hard reset, this way you can atleast use your contacts.

if its installed and not chatting with the phone it could be partnerships.

if the removed apps still dont fix it, do a hard reset
then delete the partnership but not the files.
create a new partnership for the phone, and manually install each app to verifiy which ones screw up your phone.

good luck

While there certainly has been no shortage of issues in syncing with Vista, I think this is the first I have heard of attempting to do so messing with the function of the PPC. Usually it is just abject aggravation trying to sync.

Do you have Windows Mobile Device Center installed on the Vista PC? that is the AS replacement.

Have you tried soft-reseting the PPC? I expect that is a hole into which you poke the stylus. You don't lose anything on a soft reset.

Honestly, if this doesn't help, I would be suspicious of the device and taking it back might be a good idea.

If that fails to restore functionality and you want to get more drastic, a hard reset will set the phone back to factry fresh. WM5 devices yusually have some application in the prpgrams directory to do this. Look for Start> Settings> System> Clear Storage. There is also normally a hardware way to hard reset. It may be hold both soft buttons while pushing the stylus into the reset hole.

Not that either of these does reset everything. I don't know how well Cingular set up the device to be hard reset.
