Hello there everyone,
Not sure what pocketpc/phone will suit what I want it to do any suggestions / advice please.
Basically what I want:
Pocket PC with mobile Windows
Excel, Word, Outlook and other installable software.
USB connection
PDA
has to be able to take Vodafone and Orange sim - so I assume sim free.
Normal phone functions
relatively large Hi-Res screen - touchscreen
Slide out keyboard or flip over screen with keyboard underneath (QWERTY)
Sat Nav (TomTom) dongle capability (suggestions?)
lots of memory upgradeable if poss
camera 2meg pixels + with flash
bluetooth
GPRS
I also want to be able to use it to "remote desktop" my home / work computer.
Not sure if mobile windows has this capability, if not can I install a cut down version of normal windows with remote desktop on?
Any suggestions would be appreciated
Thanks

Ok, so now i'm looking at the HTC Tytan with Tom Tom 6. Anyone got one of these phones that has any advice or other recommendations
i-mate jasjar might be a good alternative. Nice screen from what I hear.

Any bluetooth GPS receiver will do.

All Windows Mobile devices have a Terminal Services client. There are also lots of commercial programs that can do the same thing, with obviously more features and better speed.

I've had a look at the jasjar and came to the conclusion that it is a bit big for a phone.
Having said that it's no bigger than the old psion series 5 that I used to carry round with me (obviously not used as a phone though!! :) )
What are the 2 like compared?

Does that mean that I could use VNC without changing the OS?

No comparison - the Jasjar/Universal uses a 3.5" VGA (640x480) screen, the Tytyn/Hermes is 2.8" QVGA (320x240). The difference in clarity can be startling. But the real key here is if the resolution difference is a deal breaker for you - for internet browsing and multimedia, the VGA screen has a substantial advantage. You need to decide which is more important to you - the better specs and communication abilities of the Tytyn or the screen of the Jasjar.

Ok so now I am being steered more and more toward the jasjar cos I really want to get away from using my laptop and my mobile as a modem. Is there anyone out there that has actually controlled a standard desktop from one of these units and can tell me what the useability is like?
Also what is it like as a phone? Seems a bit big to be able to fit in your hand very well.
Also, if anyone has remote desktop'd with the tytn I would like to know if the screen is big enough and has good enough resolution
Thanks for all the advice btw

Anyone any idea how much I should be paying for an imate jasjar, m5000, XDA exec, or whatever other names it has!! :) sim free in the uk?
I was looking at one earlier second hand bundled with 4gb SD card, TomTom 6, powered brodit cradle, hands free, headphones, case, manuals, charger, stylus (spare), GPS, charger etc.
How much?

I've used VNC, Terminal Services client, and Z2 Remote2PC (http://www.handango.com/ampp/store/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=311&jid=X4E4C57X1B154944XC91335771D557F2&platformId=2&productType=2&productId=158623). Of the lot, Remote2PC was the best - fast, full featured and secure - but it's expensive and the developer has a very restrictive licensing policy. As far as usability is concerned, for just managing your PC remotely any of them will do the job. A VGA screen has a huge advantage here - you don't have to scroll around so much.
