More than 200,000 volunteers, including long-term users, are to be monitored for at least five years to plot mobile phone use against any serious diseases they develop, including cancer and Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases."</i><br /><br />I am really not too worried about this. I rarely talk on the phone and when I do, I am using a headset about 95% of the time. I am more worried about the fact that for about 15-18 hrs a day, that cell phone is on my hip, and causing cancer down there. 8O I think I may look for an ankle holster for my cell phone. You never hear of anyone getting ankle cancer.

The same for me Ed, I use a belt clip, a bit too close to my family jewels for my liking ...

Watch out for testicle cancer :D

Cancer or no cancer, but this is the way to ransom cash out of the industry, same way it was done to tobacco companies. No matter what the industry will have to pay up. The question is how much and how soon :devilboy:

The next time a boorish individual takes a call at a movie or theatre performance, I might be inclined to suggest he put the phone on silent, and take the call outside, or I will significantly increase his risk of colon cancer. ;)

It is my understanding that the highest burst of microwave energy occurs when the phone rings. So I have often wondered why they do not seem to be interested in blood cancers!? I believe increases in Lymphoma cases has been startling (20+%) over the past few decades. Any Oncologists out there with any info on this?

Guess I shouldn't try to break that habit of putting my phone in my pocket rather than a holster / holder. Is it possible to get thigh cancer?

I do not know if this is the case (makes sense that initially the phone may need to power up full to see how well it can hit the tower, and then back off) but even if it is, I don't think its of as much concern because its a short duration compared to the rest of the call--its the sustained power level that determines what the body can absorb. I suppose if you receive many many calls maybe this could add up. The physical location when it rings is a big factor.

Of course I have no medical training, and only minimal RF training with my engineering...

I think it was Engadget that linked to a massive European study similar to this one. I'm sorry, I don't have a link. I believe it involved 450,000 cellphone users. Most were long time users, and many of them had used cellphones for 10 years or longer. They found that this group did not have a higher rate of cancer than what is normal. In fact the 450,000 people actually had a slightly lower average of cancer victims. Even with such a large group, and one with so man long term users they could find no links between cellphone users and cancers of any kind.

I think it is unfortunate that our society has come to the point where the "wolf" has such a loud voice. Nowadays we hear so many claims of things that are not good for us with little evidence to back up the claim. Yet they make headlines and become undisputed fact for many. It seems to be in vogue to jump on a bandwagon of some sort that claims Armageddon for us all, unless we eat nothing but home grown vegetables, and stay away from anything that emits an evil force-field that is surely to disfigure our brains...or other regions of our bodies. ;)

I'm going to continue to use my cellphone with full knowledge that my day will come, not because of cancer, but because I will be paying to much attention to my phone conversation and step in front of an oncoming bus.

Dave

EDIT Thanks Engadget.

I found the link:

Yeah, but do you really want to be known as the first one?
