(High-res images and product fact sheet: <a href="http://www.hoffman.com/plantronics/">http://www.hoffman.com/plantronics/</a>)<br /><br />Plantronics will demonstrate its new AudioIQ technology and complete headset portfolio during the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) at the Las Vegas Convention Center, January 8-11, 2007 at the Plantronics Booth #30333, South Hall.<br /><br />Leveraging Plantronics' 40-plus years of sound innovation, AudioIQ makes wireless conversations effortless and pleasant, regardless of the environment. For incoming calls, AudioIQ automatically adapts to background noise levels - from a quiet taxi to a noisy city street - and intelligently improves the receive quality, clarity and volume level. For outgoing calls, AudioIQ reduces background noise for listeners up to 7-8 decibels, or by approximately 50 percent. It also minimizes interference from artifacts such as speech distortions to maintain exceptionally clear voice intelligibility.<br /><br />“AudioIQ goes beyond making conversations sound great -- it's about making communications easier and more natural for people on both sides of a call. Long gone are the days when mobile phones users are forced to seek out a quiet location to answer an important call," said Renee Niemi, general manager &amp; vice president of Mobile &amp; Entertainment for Plantronics. "By incorporating AudioIQ into Plantronics' new Bluetooth headsets, we are delivering optimal communications capabilities alongside our incomparable style and comfort."<br /><br />Plantronics Discovery 665: The Road Warrior Companion<br /><br />The new Plantronics Discovery 665 Bluetooth headset with AudioIQ, based on the Plantronics Discovery 655, is ideally suited for road warriors and in-car use. After conducting extensive research focused on headset usage in the car and while traveling, Plantronics developed a unique charging and storage system for automobiles that also includes a new visual indicator for incoming calls.<br /><br />In addition, the Discovery 665 includes Plantronics' new QuickPair(TM) technology, which greatly simplifies the Bluetooth setup process for consumers by automatically initiating pairing mode (when powered) if no device history is present. Once paired successfully, the Bluetooth headset stays on for instant use. If not paired successfully, the headset automatically shuts off after 10 minutes; when powered again automatically goes into pairing mode until successfully paired with a Bluetooth capable phone.<br /><br />To further ensure a 'painless' pairing process for consumers, Plantronics recently launched its interactive online pairing guide: <a href="http://www.plantronics.com/easytopair">http://www.plantronics.com/easytopair</a>.<br /><br />"Personal technology should be intuitive and help consumers simplify their lives," added Niemi. "Plantronics is taking steps towards this with QuickPair and other technologies innovations that make headset setup and use extremely easy."<br /><br />The Plantronics Discovery 665 will be available for $149.95 (msrp) at major retailers and <a href="http://www.plantronics.com">http://www.plantronics.com</a> in February 2007. Features and accessories include:<br /><br /> -- AudioIQ, which clarifies incoming speech and reduces outgoing background noise by up to 50%<br /> -- Convenient charging and storage system targeted for use in the automobile<br /> -- Visual call indicator and low battery indicator<br /> -- Ultra-light, sophisticated design and customizable eartips for complete wearing comfort<br /><br />In addition, the Plantronics Discovery 655, introduced in July 2006, will now also feature both AudioIQ and QuickPair technology. The Discovery 655 has an MSRP of $149.95 and is available at major retailers and <a href="http://www.plantronics.com">http://www.plantronics.com</a>.<br /><br />To experience and learn more about AudioIQ technology and Plantronics Bluetooth headsets, please visit: <a href="http://www.plantronics.com/ces2007">http://www.plantronics.com/ces2007</a>.

If the 665 with "AudioIQ" sounds better than my 655, then this will be a fantastic headset. I have been extremely happy with the 655 paired with my XV6700, with my only major complaint being that the battery doesn't last for more than four hours of continuous talk time. A couple of times each week, I'll be on a single phone call for four or more hours -- which I admit is not the typical usage pattern -- and the battery gives out after about four hours. With more typical usage patterns, where a phone call lasts 2-10 minutes, with the headset being returned to the AAA battery-powered pocket charger, the headset would be "topped-off" regularly and battery life wouldn't be an issue. Indeed, when used for shorter calls I have never once had the battery run out during the day.

In addition, the Plantronics Discovery 655, introduced in July 2006, will now also feature both AudioIQ and QuickPair technology. [...]So does that mean the 655 will be updated for future production runs? Like a 655a? If so, it looks like the only thing that differentiates the 655 and the 665 will be the 665's included car power accessories which the 655 lacks.

Sounds like it, though they'll probably still call it the 655. The 665 also has a slightly different design.

Yeah, I noticed that; what's black is silver and what's silver is black. :)

-- Visual call indicator and low battery indicator

How do you read a display, located in your ear?? :? 8O

It flashes the blue and red LEDs behind the main button. Rapid red/blue alternating flashes when a call comes in and red flashes when the battery is low. The 655 comes with a little pocket holder with a clip, so if you clip that to a shirt pocket, you could see the light flashing and feel the vibration when a call comes in even if your phone is on silent mode.

But you're right; it it's in your ear, it's not so useful to have a visual indicator. :-)

Yes, you can pair with two devices, though both devices obviously cannot work with it simultaneously. I swap my 655 between my XV6700 and my Latitude D610 with built-in Bluetooth and don't have to repair with either. I use it with Skype on the notebook and it works okay. The sound quality is far better with the phone than with the notebook for some reason; there are lots of pops and crackles with the laptop.
