We're expecting some new toys from i-mate over the next quarter. An editor at ce4arab.com dropped us a note to let us know that the K-JAR (the JASJAR-wannabe) is going to appear before the end of the new year, and two other devices, the JAQ4 (pictured above) and the SP JAM (pictured after the break) will greet us in February 2007 (and they're not too bad either). Starting with the JAQ4, it packs quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity, a bright 2.8" QVGA LTPS TFT-LCD, 802.11b Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 1.2 (a little archaic, no?), GPS (SiRFstar III), a QWERTY keyboard, a miniSD slot, and Windows Mobile 5.0. And the SP JAM? Much the same story, but with minor updates from head to toe - 262K-colour LTPS TFT-LCD, 256MB ROM, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, GPS, 2.0-megapixel camera, and TV-out. It also features a numeric/Fastap keypad rather than a QWERTY keyboard. <!>

It is really nice to see the innovative hardware designs. I think it is great for the market.

Now if these nice looking new devices would actually come with innovative specs...

No 3G? No sale!

I second that.

And VGA would not hurt either...

What about a processor? Is it still same weak OMAP TI 201?

The SP JAM uses Freescale i.MX CPUs, which are common in many mobile devices and a few media players (e.g., Zune). It features Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling (DVFS), which modulates power consumption (and so battery life and performance) based on the number of tasks it needs to perform.

Mr. Wey, in the photo of the newest JAM family member there are lots of little buttons spaced in between ( and adjacent to ) the numeric keys. Are they alpha keys?

They're Fastap keys. You can learn more about this input method here: http://www.digitwireless.com/

O'K, that's interesting, but what is the speed of this processor?

350MHz or 532MHz (I'm assuming there are two variations). Did you click the links in my original post? They take you to the specs sheets.
