Complementing existing HTC devices, the HTC P4350 is just 17mm thick and features a semi-automatic sliding full QWERTY keypad. The slim and compact form factor hosts a large internal memory - 128MB ROM and 64MB RAM, ensuring the handset delivers a full "office in your pocket" experience for business users on the go."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20061121-p4350.jpg" /><br /><br />Those of you after a slim QWERTY device without all the bang of the HTC Hermes now have a new option. HTC's P4350 (Herald) features a TI OMAP 200MHz processor, 64MB RAM, 128MB ROM, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, a 2.0-megapixel camera, a microSD slot, a 2.8" QVGA TFT-LCD, and Windows Mobile 5.0. Its retail price is US$735 and it will be made available starting early December. HTC Wizard users can probably skip this. If you're not one of them, does this interest you?

Nice... pricey... but nice! I'm sorry to see SD slots being phased out by microSD, though. For me, that would be a lot of cash spent in SD cards down the drain.

It's a Hermes with a slightly different button layout and a few specs left out. The OMAP is old....very old...they probably got it for free.

I really like all the improvements they've made.. Plus it is much thinner.. But i don't think it is enough of an upgrade over my 8125. :( Looks very nice though.

I am especially interested in new, powerful PocketPCs that *don't* have cameras - such an annoyance now, with all the Anti-Terrorist Security measures in many places. I'd rather not have to check my PocketPC at the door....
So when will the HTC P4350 be available in the U.S.?

Yeah, I really miss those PC cards. I wish they hadn't made SD cards. I had so much money rapped up in PC cards. ;)

It's the life of technology. If they didn't develop smaller components we would all be carrying around PPCs the size of the Dell X5 and are phones would be bag phones......what about TVs? Maybe they shouldn't let them evolve either. Heck, those old 12" black and white models would look great today with HD transmissions.

What's 50 bucks on a new card when you spend hundreds on a new device, and think nothing of paying 50 bucks for overnight shipping so you can have it the next day. :)

Definitely step back from TYTN! OMAP 200mhz? No 3G? And HTC claims it is made for business people?! If you consider 16 yo girl who likes fancy toys a business person, than YES!

Gosh, MicroSD? It's HTC who push the miniSD so far, not they change to MicroSD? For what? Smaller or lower power consuming? I didn't get it. Any micro to Mini SD adapter?

Yes, plenty of said adapters exist on eBay. Some online electronics stores are also starting to sell them. As for all the microSD hate, it was valid a year ago, but not so much now. A 1GB card is cheap enough to purchase.

Wa Oh!!
HTC destroyed this beautiful looking device by putting in TI OMAP 200 MHz processor. If this is a toy, it would have been acceptable.
Give this to a 14 year old boy or lady who doesn't even know how to use it.

Agreed that its cpu is rather disappointing and as expected it would be shunned once again most likely on its specs alone that are short on power especially if you compare it to the TyTN/Hermes or Glofiish M700.

Despite these gripes would guess many will still buy this thing probably for its thin dark looks and for messaging/editing text. Just look at how people are snapping up their Artemis (and its rebranded clones) with its glowing trackball. Their buyers will be ignoring and even defending the same TI OMAP 200 MHz processor as just fine to them and finding favour in other things. Heard some even get their jollies overclocking it.

Like others, however, taking a pass on this one too and continue on.

The funny thing is this is a downgraded HTC Wizard. The specs are the same except for a few things like dimensions, microSD [I consider this a downgrade as microSD is more expensive than miniSD found on Wizard] if it also has ExtUSB [HTC's one-connector-to-rule-them-all system] then this device is worse than a Wizard IMO. If it is priced really really cheap though then they may be trying to make WM PPC PE's affordable to more markets which is actually a good strategy. Major mobile makers [read: Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung] all do this. They have high end, mid-range and entry level units for different folks. So this device will succeed if they are able to sell it really cheap.

I just hope they can support all these devices they are cranking out.

Oh yeah I owned a Wizard for about 5 months and yes I had to OC it to get better performance, in the end though I went back to an Intel Xscale based PPC.

I wouldn't call this as a downgraded Wizard. I would still consider this as an upgraded Wizard for the same product positioning in the HTC range.

The better feel ans size of the device makes it an advantage over the blockish feel of the Wizard. The slide out keyboard is of better quality where it uses a similar mechanism made popular by Smasung phones. The processor isn't really much of a pain to use unless you are the type who uses your device for video clips or games.

One thing I like about OMAP processors is that it can give me the most in terms of voice calls, bluetooth, and wi-fi connections. The Smasung processors are a mix of speed and efficiency, while Xscale processors are simply gaz guzzlers that don't last a day for me.

It's like experiencing an exhilirating drive for an hour or enjoying an effortless cruise for a whole day...

I've had a not so happy experience with BT A2DP and OMAPs [although admittedly the ROM on my device was not officially A2DP ready]. I might give the OMAP another chance [but so far I am happy with my 750v hehe] I am intrigued if HTC has optimized the OMAP after a couple of devices [surely they must have learned a trick or two from their other devices].

offtopic: Carlo! Oh yeah! Just joined PinoyWindowsMobile [saw you in a tech mag with an article about PWM.]
