Hi all,

Don't know if it's been posted yet, but I've recently installed the ROM upgrade released for the T-Mobile MDA Vario (also known as iMate K-Jam and possibly other names too).

I can report that not only did the installation went without a hitch, the device seems to be performing so much better than before! Response times are much shorter - applications load and close much quicker, and there are some changes made in the software that actually make sense. I think the monumental alarm issue might have also been solved, but haven't tested it throughly yet.

In short, after a long period of suffering - I thought that Windows Mobile 5.0 was filled with some serious problems, which otherwise turned an excellent device into a nightmare to use, I think I may have found peace.

The upgrade is highly recommended and can be found here: http://www.tm-phonedownloads.com/download_manager_mda_vario.html

Regards,

GuyKo

Just for those a bit newer. Both the referenced models T-Mobile MDA, I-Mate K-Jam, and another popular item the Cingular 8125 are versions of the HTC (High Tech Computers) Wizard. Each is customized to some extent by the retailer. An upgrade for the T-Mobile version is not intended to be installed on the other two models. Might work, might not, and it certainly isn't supported by the other two sources. So...beware. Nice to know that T-Mobile at least is supporting their version.

Yup, in general, the newer the ROM version, the faster it is. I've published several benchmarks which clearly show this; see for example the following PPCT frontpaged article: http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=416683
