Get Ready for DST Changes In 2007 for USA

In 2007, the change takes affect at 2am on the second Sunday in March, 3 weeks earlier, and ends one week later than in 2006, at 2am on the first Sunday in November. Vista ships with this updated schedule. Windows XP SP2 and Windows 2003 will get updates sometime in December via Automatic Updates. At this point, Windows Mobile 2003, 2003SE and Windows Mobile 5 will get a registry patch, which can be found in the article linked to above.<br /><br />We will definitely post on this again to remind users about this, and I recommend this patch be stored on a storage card or storage ROM as the application of the patch will be wiped out by a hard reset, or clearing of memory. Keep an eye on that page as more information regarding updates to Exchange 2003, Outlook, Sharepoint Services and other systems will be updated. It seems Pocket PC 2002 and older will simply cease to keep proper time a few weeks out of the year in the US. Meanwhile, I have some older Windows 2000 Server boxes to manually maintain as they will not be receiving simple automatic updates. :(

I am confused after reading the post &amp; the article, and maybe this is because I am not an OEM. It doesn't seem that I can do anything with the *.inf file created with the instruction from the MS Support site. I do not have a *.cab to include this *.inf information into. Do I just wait for my PPC manufacturer to come out with this update?

Or, is there any way to convert this *.inf information into a *.reg file that I can add myself?

No you can't do much with a *.inf file directly on the device, however you can convert the INF file to a self installing update, namely a *.CAB file, if you have the right software. Or you can take the file with the correct type of registry editor on your device and import the settings.

Now over at pdaphonehome.com, I already imported the file into a CAB file that should be able to install on any device mentioned in their article. If you would like that file, feel free to go here and download it:

Hopefully that will help you with your device. This has been tested on 3 different WM5 devices (Pocket PC), but it's a direct import of the INF file, and should work on all devices that Microsoft mentioned from their article.

There's no reason that the values for the inf file can't simply be converted to a reg file. Here's the values for the Central US timezone.

I think I have them right. I had to copy by hand. Unfortunately, they don't seem to work for PocketPC 2002.

I now got this to work with PocketPC 2002!! I'd made a mistake in my registry editing. The binary value isn't TZ1, it's TZI. Once I changed the name, the switch to DST works properly. Thought it should. the data structure for all MS OS's is the same. The data is just stored at a slightly different location.

The MS article doesn't mention PocketPC 2002 as a supported OS for this information, these are the supported OS's for mobile based devices:

Microdoft has lots of kb articles telling me that I can't do things I've had no problems doing.

Microshaft lists "Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PC Standard Edition" 3 times. There's the original wm2003 and wm2003se, what's the 3rd one? (BTW...Naturally you have to view the page in IE to see all of the info. Firefox 2 wouldn't display the page correctly.)

Please see my earlier but revised post. Once I named the TZI binary value correctly, the change to DST works perfectly under PocketPC 2002.

I should have just made the registry file by copy and paste on my desktop rather than a remote registry editor which didn't let me paste values into the remote registry.

I tried the cab file referred to in the third reply of the thread. It installs fine and functions properly under PocketPC 2002. Can save myself some work with this little item.

That's why I made the cab and posted it, trying to help people save a little time, and be able to save the file for use if they hard reset their device. Glad the CAB file worked for you.

When you sync clock will adjust itself.

Yes it will update, and then when your phone hits the daylight savings time that it set for, it will change again, so then your calendar and time will be off by an hour, and until you sync again, it won't be fixed.

With this simple cab file, it will make it so it will change correctly, and won't try to change again at the wrong time.

When you sync clock will adjust itself.
no it won't. it will compensate for the time zone on the device, and that will be wrong.

Oddly enough, no. In many areas bars shut down before 2am, so the hour extension just means you get more time to sleep it off, not imbibe further. ;)
