The price mainly comes down to which OS you want installed. It's $1199 for XP Home, $1299 for XP Pro, and $1399 for XP Tablet Edition. Rumors have it that the price drops are a precursor to a new OQO line that will be released early next year.

If I could run Ubuntu on it, I'd do it in a heartbeat. That's a hell of a deal for a device I'm really fond of.

The word on the street is that the new model is supposed to be introduced sometime in January, perhaps even on Jan. 8th at the Consumer Electronics Show. Those in the know are speculating that the next model OQO handheld PC, will have a brighter screen, cellular capability, improved keyboard, more memory, a bigger hard drive and wide-area wireless capability, all for about the same price as the current model ($1,599 at the OQO store). It already has WiFi and Bluetooth - and still to hot to hold for more than 30 minutes.

Hmm... what about the Sharp Zaurus sl-c3100 (http://www.the-gadgeteer.com/review/sharp_zaurus_sl_c3100) and the OpenBSD direct port? ;)

The screen is a real killer. 800x480 is just useless.

Its better than the PPC's VGA, and QVGA, and it's way handier than a laptop. 8)

Though the price still keeps me uot of that bussiness
