Help!

Had a botched install last night of PhatPad 4.0 beta. The fall out from the whole situation is that I had to do a hard reset on my unit. No worries with most everyting (I had everything backed up), except my storage card. I have a 2gb mini sd card. Everything got wiped off of the card somehow during that botched install ( I had checked the card before the hard reset and there was nothing on it). Again - all good, because I had everything for that card backed up as well.

The problem is,... when I check how much space is available on the card, it still tells me that is it is using 1.4gb of the card, but there is nothing on it. Either everything is invisible, or the card is just giving some kind of false reading. I have taken the card out of the unit and checked it on another device and it shows the same thing (no items, but 1.4gb used).

Can anyone explain this to me?

How do I just wipe the card clean so it does not show any storage space being used?

You can get the reasons why in this thread (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=39583). In essence, the file allocation table on your card has been corrupted - the data is still there, there's just no way for the PDA (or any PC) to know which bits are where.

As for solving it - since your data is backed up already, just format the card through a card reader (remember to use FAT32), and copy back the contents.

Sorry - I am showing my ignorance here once again.

just format the card through a card reader (remember to use FAT32)

What is the actual process for this? I have a card reader.

Thanks!

No probs - attach the card reader (with the card inserted) to your PC, wait for it to be recognised, then in file explorer right click on the drive letter - "Format..." should be in the context menu.

Yes, this is an old thread. However, can anyone tell me WHY this happens? I have a Cingular 8100 and a SanDisk miniSD card. My table gets corrupted probably about once a month. Is it my phone or my card? Thanks in advance.

It's *probably* a bad card, with bad sectors that keep crashing. However, it is possible that there's something wrong with your device or software setup that's messing the card up.

I'd try a different card first, to see if that fixes things.

I could reproduce the disappearing files problem by simply relocating the internet cache to the card - what apps have you installed on the card?

I installed most apps to the card. And yes, my internet cache is there. However, I find it odd that there IS any cache, since I don't use Pocket IE. Ever.

Move the internet cache off anyway - that's the best way to start. I'd also look at any programs that write/cache lots of files, RSS readers for example, and move them off the card as well.
