In addition, the Company also announced that it’s wholly owned subsidiary, PalmSource, Inc., has started the process to begin transitioning its company name to ACCESS."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/hansberry/2006/20061013-access.gif" /><br /><br />Question: How many of you seriously think there will ever be a new PDA that runs some next iteration of the Palm operating system from any major supplier? I am pretty confident Asia will see phones, and it wouldn't surprise me if phones came to the US. Palm didn't release a single new PDA this year - just Treo's. PalmSource is effectivly gone now, completely absorbed into a company with no name value in most countries. I am just going to be completely shocked if we see a device that I hear people begging for in other communities - a PDA running PalmOS.

A rubbish pile by any other name smells just the same.

I think it's fairly safe to say that the Palm OS has become what Netscape, Novell, OS2, and others has amounted to become...nothing.

Just surprised how fast it happened. From being on top - King, to falling off the map. I don't think we will see another Major Palm OS. If we do.. it will be short lived. They will push Palm on Linux, but even that will be too little too late and much like the Newton who had followers hoping for the platform to resurrect years after the rest of the world moved on, we will see "Palm Hippies" lurking around for another decade or so preaching a forgotten religion.

"PalmSource is effectivly gone now, completely absorbed into a company with no name value in most countries."

Hmm, they are pretty well known for their browser "NetFront", and by insiders, as one of the top devellopers of Linux for PDA's 8O

Don't know if Palm Inc. will stop the production of Palm devices, and completely convert to WinMobile, but they now do have the solo right for the name Palm, and that must be worth something to them :?

I allso belive that the merging of PalmSource and Access, will lead to a big step up, for Linux driven PDA's/Smartphones i near future, witch won't be bad, seen from all the anti M$ geeks viewpoint (Mac, Palm, and Linux fans) :?
