<img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20060915-imatejaq01.jpg" /><br /><br />We managed to score a few pictures of <strike>Frankenstein's monster</strike> the <a href="http://www.clubimate.com/t-DETAILS_JAQ.aspx">i-mate JAQ</a> and the <a href="http://www.palm.com/us/products/smartphones/treo700w/index.html">Palm Treo 700wx</a>, which were both on display at CTIA in Los Angeles. So, it's no secret. The JAQ isn't exactly flash-looking from the front, and from the side, we're going to have to say that it's not that much better. More shots after the break! <!><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20060915-imatejaq02.jpg" /><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20060915-imatejaq03.jpg" /><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20060915-imatejaq04.jpg" /><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20060915-imatejaq05.jpg" /><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20060915-imatejaq06.jpg" /><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20060915-imatejaq07.jpg" /><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20060915-imatejaq08.jpg" /><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20060915-imatejaq09.jpg" /><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20060915-imatejaq10.jpg" /><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20060915-imatejaq11.jpg" /><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20060915-palmtreo700wx01.jpg" /><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20060915-palmtreo700wx02.jpg" />

I didn't think it would be possible to look worse in real life than in the photoshop renderings. This thing is hideous. If this is the way I-Mate is heading when they don't get help from HTC then I wish them luck, they'll need it.

It is for design work like this that the term 'fugly' was coined. oy. What a beast. Cheezy '70s calculator anyone?

Darius may have put it a bit too bluntly, but I am afraid he's spot on.

This device must either have been rushed through the corridors of i_mate HQ skipping the Martketing&amp;Style department or HTC shrewdly coerced iMate into accepting this design as a final step towards pushing iMate out of the market and make place for the HTC brand.

Ploy of the devil or stupid goof? Time will tell.

(personally I am increasingly getting cynical about iMates long term chances in the market)

Wiz; if I am not mistaken this is NOT an HTC design. It is designed and built by Invensys.

You'd think a device that wide could stand to be a bit thinner....

This thing wouldn't be so bad if it were thinner.

You're on the right track. It's definitely not an HTC device. Instead, it's a rebranded version of the Inventec Mercury.
