View Full Version : Giveaway Goings-On: I Need a New Title!

Of the dozens and dozens of tasks that the Thoughts Team undertakes in order to make this the absolute best site on the Web, the task that's always been the most fun for me is to help coordinate contests and giveaways. In the past, Jason and the other team members have done a great job of making giveaways look simple and quick to implement. The truth is, though, that an ever-growing number of vendors is offering to sponsor a growing volume of increasingly complex giveaways for a booming population of patrons of this burgeoning Thoughts resource. <br /><br />That's where I come in. <br /><br />Jason has asked me to relieve him of the day-to-day challenge of coordinating this plethora of Pocket PC Thoughts contests and giveaways. I think this will be an absolute <b>BLAST</b>, and I can't wait to get started ...but we are faced with a few issues that need to be immediately addressed:<br /><br />*I have to revive and re-post the famed "No Whining Contest Doctrine of 2001,"<br />*I need to practice saying, "All decisions are final and the judges thank you for your participation," and <i>most importantly</i>,<br />*<b>We need to decide what esteemed job title I'll be using as I dutifully accept this immense responsibility.</b><br /><br />What job title do YOU think most effectively conveys the dignity and unbiased decorum with which I shall be serving? Please vote for your favorite title below, or if you have a title in mind that might fit better, please post it to this thread for us to consider (and remember that this is a PG-13-rated site and that my feelings get hurt very easily).<br /><br />As soon as we get this figured out, I'll jump in with a brand new giveaway ASAP!

I don't believe it. I actually got the first vote! (edit -- but missed the first post). I voted for Prize Poobah. I can think of several others, but most are not PG-13 and involve the term "Shoveler." :)

Actually, Brad, I've enjoyed everything you've done for PPCT over the years and can't wait to see the enhancements you'll bring to the prize giveaways, which are always a lot of fun....even though I've never won anything &lt;nudge, nudge, wink, wink>.

How 'bout
Contest Concierge?

or

Booty Bestower?

or

Papa Paraphenalia?

I voted for Sultan of Swag, but I really don't think any of those titles are sufficiently dignified. How 'bout Judge? Or King? Or The One Who Must Be Bribed?

Paul Martin
09-14-2006, 07:40 PM
I voted for Sultan of Swag but Contest Concierge has a certain ring to it.

capo
09-14-2006, 07:55 PM
or something more corporate... CPO - chief plethora officer?

I voted for Sultan of Swag, but I really think your title should be "Supreme Commander of Swag (Don,t like it? Tough, don't whine about it)"

How about 'Mad Brad The Giveaway Lad'.

Hmm... what about "Cheif Competition Officer" in short CCO ? ;)

Edit: seems like someone had a similar idea already...

contest cordinator seems to fit best in my mind, but i might cast a vote anonymously and all good.

How about "Giveaway Guy"? :)

Ekkie Tepsupornchai

How about Cracker Jack?

Oh wait... am I allowed an opinion?

These just randomly popped into my head:

Mad Brad: Beyond the Contest Zone

Dave (as in "Dave's Not Here, man." (Incidentally, I voted for the Steve option.))

The Dude

Brad the Lad Levitad

Lunchlady Doris

Contest-Judging PHP Script

Are you asking because of your affiliation with the site, or because you're not sure I value your opinion? §;{›>

Wow. When you say "random," you really mean "random."

How about MY NEW BEST FRIEND!!!
LOL!! Of course [wink, wink], I know that [nudge, nudge] you're only kidding [wink, wink, wink] and that you have every confidence [send bribes to my home address] in my total impartiality!

Some really good suggestions so far! Let's keep the ideas coming!

Jason, are you getting my new stationery and name badge ready?

Brad Adrian
09-14-2006, 11:36 PM
How about Contest Czar, or something similar?
That suggestion brings another point to mind. Some of these titles seem to naturally lend themselves to images of accompanying headgear, so maybe we should also be designing something that evokes the dignity of a "czar" or "sultan." ;)

09-15-2006, 12:40 AM
Hmmmm.

Well, naturally I voted for Steve ;-)

But maybe something a little more sophisticated - Prezz Stud :-)

Or maybe Gift Ed 8O

Or Prize Champ

Schwag Hag.

Chief Prezzie Officer (CPO)

Cheap Skate

Merchant Ice (merchandise :silly: )

Brad,

I think "Prince Prizealot" would be perfect. You can still go with the headgear idea. And Jason wouldn't be jealous of your title.

Sorry you guys but swag and poobah are unknown to us non native english speakers. 8O

However Guru is known worldwide :D

And tho I prefer Giveaway Guru for the meaning I voted for Freebie-Geebie, better balanced
:D

Since it seems like I've done a bunch of giveaways around here recently, I guess I'll posit my own idea:

Contest Coordinator

So it's not as good as Giveaway Guru, but it does have a more official sound. Ah heck, who cares about officiality, why not the old standby "I joined just for the contests" :)

I believe the term is "Schwag" but Sultan of Schwag definitely has a nice ring to it :)

Hmmm. Now where to begin? I suppose it depends on your position. Is it corporate? Then maybe somthing like Director, Chautskies &amp; Events OR Chief Chautskies and Events Coordinator (CCEC or CC&amp;EC). If it is not a corporate title your after, somthing like this - Chautsky Czar or Overlord of Events and Schwag (or Chautsky).

By the way, I didn't know that Germany had cents?

Technically, "chautsky" should be spelled tchotchke, but Tchotchke Czar definitely has a nice ring to it...and you get a bonus for using extra consonants.

How about

or

The Productologist

Brad Adrian
09-16-2006, 01:24 AM
The Productologist

I like it, but I don't think I could endure the cringing each time I'd think about it!

jgrnt1
09-16-2006, 01:34 AM
I think "the Productologist" should be a roving title, going to whichever company is "giving it to us" at the time -- As the Productologist pulled on his rubber glove, he said, "No WM5 for you, my boy."

When Germany converted from the Deutsche Mark to the Euro, the Pfenning was converted to Euro "cents" i.e. 25 Euro cents. But their 2 cents is worth 2.68 cents American

BTW - How about the Kaiser of Competition

Is that why they always seem to say more than us, when they put in their "two cents' worth"?

And I like "Contest Coordinator" or something more serious-sounding like that...

Just my...uh... 2.68 cents' worth. ;)

To Kursplat's point, the intent of vendor-provided swag is for marketing purposes.

How about: Vendor Marketing Liason? Not strong enough? Vendor Marketing Coordinator.

Manager of Vendor Coordination Services would look good on your resume....

Oh, were we supposed to be searching for a title that will look good on a resume?!? I'm not sure that I want to be constrained to something that serious. §:{›>

So far, it looks like "Sultan of Swag" has the most votes. Let's say that Monday, September 18 at 11:59pm EST we'll close the voting. Then, I'll post on the final decision shortly after that.

So, if you haven't gotten in your vote yet, now is the time to do so!
