I have to admit that Sling Player Mobile is probably the coolest application I can use to show off my Sprint PPC 670p.

I registered my Slingbox after the free offer began, but I was not offerred a free download. Should I wait for an email?

There are a few threads over at slingmedia about that. Someone was looking into it but I haven't seen anything else since that post.

New to the forum---does anyone know if any of the smartphones or pocket pc's have a vga out cable to view the sling content on a larger screen?

As far as current models are concerned, the Dell Axim X50v and X51v support VGA-out functionality via the Intel 2700G GPU.
