What's the difference with HP iPaq hx2795 and the hx2795b.

I'm scratching my head on this. Is it just newer and revised or they just slap in a "b" version on their latest just for giggles? :)

HP uses these letters to keep track of versions of the hardware sold to specific businesses. The hardware itself is no different.

If you head into a standard retail store, they'll most likely have the hx2795.

the "b" version seems to have a lager amount of flash rom equipped.

besides this, they are identical, i think.

surely, the RUU is not compatible between "b" and non-"b" version.

Definitely not compatible - the HP site notes that the ROM upgrade they had for the hx2000 series was specifically NOT compatible with the b-version.

Hmm, according to this page (http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12287_na/12287_na.HTML) and this page (http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/product_detail.do?product_code=FA676B%23ABA&tab=detailed_specs&storeName=storefronts&landing=handhelds&category=handhelds&subcat1=&catLevel=1#defaultAnchor), both have 320MB ROM?

On another note, it is worth mentioning that over the past few months, HP has upgraded the ROM size of the hx2000 series in increments.

oh great, so I might have problems with mine in the future of rom upgrade? Wonderful, thanks for the info though, I appreciate it.

Nope, that second link is to an hx2795b, too. Look at the left navigation area. I don't think HP is selling the plain hx2795 anymore.

I went to a CompUSA on Labor Day, and saw an iPAQ hx2795 on sale for $350. That seemed like a great price, so I got a clerk. He said the demo was the only one available, but he'd give me another 25% off.

I wasn't thrilled about getting a demo, and my wife spotted another 2795 in a box in the glass case. The clerk got that out and checked the UPC numbers and said they weren't the same and the one in the box was $500. I hadn't heard of the 2795b at the time, so I assured him they were the exact same items, but of course they wouldn't sell me the boxed one for $350, so I bought the demo for about $262.50.

The box that I got says 192 MB ROM with up to 144 MB available. The hx2795b has 320 MB ROM with 256 MB available. So it looks like the hx2795b got a nice 128 MB ROM boost.

It does look like the hx2795b leaves more room for the OS (64 MB) than the 2795 did (48 MB), which is interesting (maybe the 2795b will be ready for WM 6?). I assume that the 2795b also has the latest WM 5 update already.

Sweet. WM6? That's still far.

Nevertheless, I love it. Better than my 2755.

Thanks for the answers.

This is for the 2495b, NOT the 2795b

I thought WM5 just came out, and compatibility with WM3 is still a GO. WM6/7 is probably going to be released when I get back from Iraq.

Big difference is the increased memory footprint. That was a huge selling point for me. Also, in terms of problematics competitor, this little HP toy doesn't freeze up like Dell's Axim - I believe Dell to be HP's biggest competitor in the PDA market. Both the Axim and HP made PDA's that were priced at just under 300$ at the time I bought them, though, I do prefer the slightly more expensive HP. Lastly, with the HP, I didn't encounter the dreaded Sync issues everyone was complaining about on the forums with the HP. Food for thought.

If you buy the 2495b, expect to update it to ROM version 1.20.xx something or another; it comes preloaded with an outdated stamp. Great PDA! :) Otherwise, just wait a few more months until the PDAs start coming with integrated 802.11n cards. Hah.
