I am really hoping someone here can help me. My handhelds battery dies so it got wiped out. This was fine because I did not have much on it at the time, but when I went to sync it the first time it said that there already was a "POCKET_PC" on my computer. So I went into "MY DOCUMENTS" and deleted the folder and the shortcut on the desktop. Then tried again, and got the same error.

How do I make it so that whenever this occurs I don't have to create and new handheld ID on the computer ever time? I may end up with 5-10 folders with all different name on my syncing computer. There has to be some hidden files buried somewhere that I can delete so that I can just sync like I did before the battery draining. Please help...

THANKS EVERYONE IN ADVANCE,
Tom 8O

To avoid this problem, you'll need to delete old partnerships from your computer. To do this, open ActiveSync, and navigate to File > Mobile Device > "Device Name". Once you've selected the partnership you wish to delete, navigate to File > Delete Mobile Device.

This is exactly my problem. For some reason, perhaps a faulty battery connection, my IPAQ 4700, resets at the damndest times. I have SPB backup on it and the restore goes well except when I get home to sync again. I have deleted the partnerships but it seems to remember any partnership I have ever used when I try to re sync. One time, out of the blue, it did recognize the former partnership except that in the program installation list, everything was greyed out.
I list no connection but if I try IPAQ_4700 my usual id, for example, it says that it's already in use. If I try IPAQ1_4700, an old one I deleted in activesync and the folder, it still says its in use and I have to make a new one. I am still using mobile 2003 and activesync 3.7.1. Is there any way I can clean this stuff up without starting over?

If you've already deleted unused partnerships via ActiveSync and it's still causing problems, you may have to dig into the registry and remove profiles manually.

I'm tagging this with the usual warning: it's unsupported, undocumented, and can create additional issues if something goes wrong, so proceed at your own risk.

Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\Partners and have a look at the eight character keys. Delete the ones you don't need, but leave "ffffffff" intact.

Hello Darius,

FYI: Its under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and not Current User. Maybe is it just in my device ?

I will add this into my software Registry tweaker PRO (http://www.pocketpc-live.com/registry-tweaker-pro.html)

Regards,
Carty..

Hello Darius,

FYI: Its under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and not Current User. Maybe is it just in my device ?

I was actually referring to the registry of the companion PC, not the Pocket PC itself.

Hi everyone! I'm having the same problem, too. I accidently did
a hard reset on my pocket pc and of course it wiped out everything.
Is there anyway to used the old ID and restore everything back
on the pocket pc like my contacts, appts, calendar, etc. I haven't
had this problem for a couple of years so don't remember how I
fix the problem before. Happy Holidays, everyone!

Hope you have those contacts synchronized to your Desktop' Outlook. If so, connect your device and Active Sync will ask for new partnership settings and choose it to synchronize the contacts and stuff..

Hi Carty,

Thanks for the advise. I never used Outlook for storing my addresses,
calendar, etc. Which, I know, was very stupid, but you better believe
I'm going to use it now.

Infact many don't use Desktop Outlook to store Contacts.. But they get synchronized by Active Sync automatically on every device connect. So after a Hard-rest, the contacts can be synchronized back to your device!
