Hi,

I would like to confirm something that it seems a little bit confused for me. I`m not computer literate. I bought iPAQ on US eBay. On auction was stated Installed Memory RAM256MB, but in discription was:
Installed Memory: 64 MB
Installed ROM: 192 MB
I understood that 256MB is 192 + 64 = 256MB

My iPAQ shows:

Sorage: Program:

Total: 133.99MB 56.59
In Use: 16.93 19.24
Free: 117.06 37.20

Where is 192MB and where is 64MB or 256MB?
Can anyone explain me this?

Any reply very appreciated. Thanks :D

When it says

Installed Memory: 64 MB
Installed ROM: 192 MB

it means that 192MB is used for installing programs and file storage (like the hard drive in your computer) and 64MB is used for program execution only (same as the RAM in your computer). You cannot store any files in this 64MB Memory area, it is used by running programs to store runtime data and resources. Therefore, you should have 192MB or less to store files in.

I'm not sure on this but I believe the reason why you have
Total: 133.99MB
instead of
Total: 192MB
is because part of it is taken by the operating system and its bundled programs.

Therefore, the information you see under "STORAGE" is associated with the 192MB ROM while the information you see under "PROGRAM" is associated with the 64MB Memory.

Thanks again.
Can you tell me what you see on your iPAQ? Is exactly the same but you have additional Finger Scan security.
I think total should be 192MB, then in use and free. At the moment shows only 133.99, sometimes more. It depands on program I remove or add.
I was adviced to download great program Dinarsoft's Memmaid.
I read a lot about it now and it seems very good program. I`m only concern about memory. More I download, less will remain. I have 1GBSD inserted and some programs like games, MP3 player put there, but sometimes it goeas alone to device even if I indicate SD to go. Anyway I will try above soft.

JSKY, the OS on its own takes nearly 40MB of internal ROM on its own. In addition some parts of the ROM are also reserved for future upgrades, which explains why your usable ROM storage is much less than the maximum stated. For RAM, WM5 takes up at least 12MB-15MB, not including the file cache.

That's correct, you're not missing out on anything. On my device it says a total of 135mb free as well, so you're okay.

Thanks guys a lot. I very, very appreciate your help. It is nice to see that JesterMania has the same total memory.
Hishamh thank you for great explenation. I downloaded trial of MemMaid 1.72 the newst version. Thinking to purchase it. Too many great positive feedbacks and it works nice too.
