Do you want to use your volume slider as a jog dial? Do you want to add hold functionality to your WM5 softkeys to close/minimize your applications and to quickly bring up the Start menu? Great, free utility SmartSKey will be your best friend!
If you haven’t heard of this really great application yet, make sure you download it from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/download.php?id=10390) (alternate download here (http://www.winmobiletech.com/sekalaiset/SmartSKey/SmartSKey052.zip)), unzip it and read the readme.pdf inside. It’ll explain what to do.
Note that while XDA-Developer forum member ‘water’, author of the app, lists version 0.53 as the latest (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41060), online is only 0.52 because he recalled version 0.53 a week after its (06/23) release because of the bad bug. This is why the links currently point to version 0.52.
The main discussion forum of the application is here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41060). Note that you will not necessarily need to read it in its entirety – the PDF file coming with the application will be more than sufficient to get going. For advanced tips and user-submitted tricks, however, it's worth checking out. (And, also, for future versions - I will, however, most probably report on them too.)
Note that, in order to be used with the great Internet Explorer Mobile plug-in MultiIE 4, I’ve created an .ini file (available here (http://www.winmobiletech.com/sekalaiset/SmartSKey/smartskey.ini)) that doesn’t let SmartSKey add hold functionality to the WM5 softkeys (because MultiIE 4 also adds that – at least, as far as current (up to D72) MultiIE 4 builds are concerned, on devices that have native softkeys – to WM5 softkeys). Remember, again, that you will only need it if you plan to run MultiIE 4 on your Wizard and want to use the extra softkey hold functionalities it offers. Otherwise, do not use it if you don’t want to lose the extra hold functionality SmartSKey adds to the two WM5 soft buttons.
Also note that this application may also work on other WM5 Phone Edition devices with a volume slider.
