I am hoping this is the right part of the forum for this discussion. I have a friend who wants to sell me his Axim X50v, with:

the Dell GPS (bluetooth) navigation system,
an extra high capacity battery
And the CD for upgrading to Mobile 5.0 (he has not upgraded it yet)

He says it is nine months old and hardly used. He will sell it to me for $350.00. Is that a good buy? :?:

I am more familiar with smartphones and was really just looking for this Pocket Pc for the higher resolution screen and GPS. Should I buy it or just plunk down the money on a GPS system for my smartphone (cingular 2125) any help from you gurus would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The BT GPS system would work on the 2125 system just as well..The advantage would be the screen size and graphics accelerator of the X50v.
(I have the X50v, different GPS, UTStarcom 6700)

Thanks so much for the reply. I have decided to purchase the USED Axim X50v with the Dell Navteq GPS. The guy is uploading Mobile 5.0 onto it tonight. Could anyone tell me what things I should look for to insure it is working properly and the GPS is functioning. I have asked him to meet me at a coffee shop with wifi and I will partner with my bluetooth phone. What are some other tips in buying a used PDA? Once again any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would have him not update it to WM5, though it might be too late. You can put it back. While a native WMX51v is doing well, and upgraded X50v seems to have numerous issues. Some can be mitigated using hacks and tips found here and at AximSite, but the X50v with the latest WM2003SE is a pretty stable and capable device on it's own.

Get the CD from him though.
