For a device that had expected availability in the first quarter of 2006. We're now into the 3rd quarter of 2006, but still no device (and still no integrated wireless connectivity of any kind either); not only will this be a case of "too little, too late" when the device is finally spotted in the wild, but I'm still failing to see the point of the device at all."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/salgado-20060711-dualcor.jpg" /><br /><br />I know this has been talked about before, but Kevin Tofel at JKontheRun.com brings up some interesting points on the elusive and questionable DualCor cPC, which I personally believed it could've been the "Holy Grail" of Windows Mobile devices <i>until</i> all the connectivity options became... well, optional. :?: Did DualCor spend all this time and effort to release a doomed product, or could it actually be a successful, niche device? Unfortunately for them, I'm glad I never placed an order for a cPC and redirected my cash towards the Sony UX180P, which thankfully arrives today. ;)

The DualCor?

One word: Yawn.

It's not the first time I've said: any mobile product these days has to have integrated wireless - WiFi and BT at the very least, and truthfully, should also have some form of GSM/EDGE cellular.

Optional connectivity for any device, but especially one like this, in the form of CF cards and the like, is short-sighted and foolish. People don't want add-ons. People want it integrated. Every other mobile product in the world has this.

So... game over. Try again.

Arriving early or late has little to do with the success of this product (given they are non the later than Microsoft is in releasing their products). Nor do I believe wireless capabilities will make or break the device, as long as this can be added later with no hassle. But what will determine the success of the DualCor is it's price. Good Pricing is what people and businesses want - and than everything else. $1,600+ US dollars versus $600.00 US for a UMPC - You don't have to be Einstein to figure this out.

What originally killed this device me was the price increase... The original pricing of $1500 was fair and reasonable for the spec's it had... With an extra $500 tagged and no built-in wireless whatsoever, it' not worthwhile..

The UMPC's have been having just a terrible time as well... I had an order with Tablet Kiosk for MONTHS and a couple of weeks ago, cancelled my order. They've been promising when a fan issue was worked out, that they would ship out the order... A month later, they are shipping out the 'White' one, but the black one won't be ready until end of July... So I heard..

Now, I'll be placing an order for the Motion LS800 Tablet PC... 1.5" bigger screen, 200MHz faster and .2lbs heavier for about $850 more money than the UMPCs... Heck, I'll save more money than that using the Motion Tablet than waiting for the dang UMPCs to come out...

I still like the concept of an all-in-one WM and PC. However, the lack of an integrated keyboard, and no wireless takes this one off of the list. If this was the same size, with a slide out keyboard and included at least Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, I would have gladly paid the extra $500.00 - provided the device worked as advertised.

I've been playing with the UX180P, and I really like the screen, and performance is much better than the OQO. However, the keyboard is tough to get used to and it is still a bit too big for me to carry everywhere. Using EDGE for on-the-go access is a bit of a drag too, after getting used to EVDO on my i730. I'm going to keep dreaming of the day we get a JasJar sized device with full-blown Windows. I can type much faster on the JasJar thumboard than either the OQO or UX180P. I'd guess my dream will probably come through sometime in the not tooo distant future too.

Well, I'd rather say the DualCor is too BIG too late .
