Cellular South and SmartPhones

I am very ignorant of the CDMA market. A friend of mine is asking what cool phones she could use on her Cellular South network, so I can help her choose the phone she wants.

She has not outright stated she wants a PDA phone, but I'm sure she would consider it. Which PDA/phones would work for her?

First question is, does Cellular South allow you to activate devices not supplied by them? If not, that's where the game ends. If they do, you should be able to use any CDMA device, like the HTC Apache, or the Motorola Q.
