Does anyone know of a way to listen to radion am or fm on an mda? I would like to listen to news or talk radio but every site that I have put in the browser seems to fail. I would hope there is a website for mobile useres that you can go to for several radio stations. I have seen a new phone coming out that has both the tv and radio tuner I wonder if that ca be downloaded and made to use with a pocket pc like the mda .

I'm a little confused. Are you after a software or hardware solution?

Note that you cannot port software over from one FM/TV tuner-enabled device to one FM/TV tuner-less device and expect it to work. The software requires the hardware.

What I recommend you do is download Resco Radio (http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/radio/default.asp) and install it. This application allows you to listen to internet radio stations. Some AM and FM radio stations have a streaming URL that you can add, so that's an option for you.

I was not aware that you had to have hardware to support it. I thought I could make it work with a download. Well. It sounds like that there are some software solutions for this. This one that you spoke of is it like wmp? I have tried to go to radio station websites but cant get the audio to work 90% of the time. Will this make it work? I would just love to have the news ext... on this thing. Have you had any luck with the tv thing? I have heard you can go to certian sites and watch clips but have had no luck with this at all. thanks for the help

I think you're talking about "streaming" where you go to a web site then look for an audio streaming link. When you click on it, the browser launches a media player which buffers and plays the audio while it is downloading.

That is one way to listen and watch on a Pocket PC. For what it's worth, podcasting (both audio and video) are becoming more and more popular. You can check whether the radio programs you are interested in have podcasts available. If they do, you can download a program like FeederReader to download and play those podcasts. FeederReader will also allow you to stream the podcasts from the podcast feed.

If you have any questions or want to get started with podcasting or streaming podcasts, you can view the Installation Video and the Getting Started Video.

If you'd like to learn more, I'm very responsive here and in the FeederReader Forums (visit www.FeederReader.com sidebar "Forums")

One of the best websites for streaming radio content is radio4pda (http://www.radio4pda.com/). I use it all the time for Breaking News on WBZ AM in my area. They cover the uS and Canada, UK and Ireland as well as Austrailian networks.

I don't see anything in your location box so I'm not sure if this helps you.

I'm going to echo the others here. It does sound like you're after an internet streaming solution, rather than a hardware tuner-dependent solution pulling the broadcasts from the actual radio and TV stations.

Resco Radio is a bit like Windows Media Player, in that it has the familiar playback controls. It comes with a whole collection of internet radio presets, so you only need to have an active data connection to listen. Simply tap on a preset to connect and stream: it's that simple. :)

Then there's also Bobby's suggestion of radio4pda.

If you want live TV on the go, check out SmartVideo (http://www.smartvideo.com/index.asp).

If you use Resco Radio, it streams directly to your PDA.

Am I just looking for a player that can play streaming audio?

If what you want to do is listen to internet radio, then the answer is "yes".

Being based in Australia, I'm unsure of what radio stations exist in Utah. I'm sure you have a better idea. If I were in your shoes, I would visit each radio station's web site and locate the streaming radio URL (may be labelled as "Listen Now"). For example, this is the home page of a local station I listen to from time to time: http://www.nova937.com.au/. If I click on the speakers, I can grab the streaming radio URL and then copy and paste it into Resco Radio, or even Windows Media Player Mobile, and then save it. Do note that Resco Radio comes with a whole range of presets, so you may not even want to go through the whole process of grabbing URLs, if you fancy what the presets have to offer.

And on a final note, remember that you need an active data connection to stream, be it GPRS, Wi-Fi, or something else.
