View Full Version : WM5 Registry Jacked...

I did the unthinkable!
I was poking around with RESCO's Registry Editor and thought I found an entry left behind by an un-installed program. I deleted it... As it turns out, it is an entry that controls the ringing on my PALM TREO 700w.
So how do I get it back... And yea, a backup would work - BUT I DON'T HAVE ONE!
If my memory serves me right, the line was in the SOFTWARE area, and it started with something like PHONEALARM or PHONEMAX... I think...
I thought it was the entry for the software by the same name... Anyway, does anyone know how I can fix this?! Anyone know where I can review a fresh registry and compare entries one by one (what a thought)...
As always, any help would be dynamite!

I don't have the rigtht device to let you know what that entry might be, but if all else fails, a hard reset will restore your registry. Of course, you'd have to reinstall any applications you had before the reset.

That is the very thing I am trying most to avoid...

On my 700w, I have no such key under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software or under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software. Are you sure that's triggering your problem?

Janak -
Thanks for your help... Can you tell me what appears under:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications
Can you tell me what entries you have between PHONE and SIP...
Thanks!

I don't have SIP. I have Reminders, ShellOverrides, and Sounds after Phone, followed by a bunch of long CLSIDs (alphanumeric strings in curly brackets).

Ok, it's official... I'M SCREWED!
The more time passes, and the more I wander around the registry - the more things begin to look the same.
Unless someone honestly knows the registry entry for controlling the ringing on a Palm 700w - I will be forced to do a hard reset... all for one line of code...
Too bad we couldn't just do like we do with WinXP - just resinstall windows!
Janak - Thanks for your help... I appreciate it!

Sorry I couldn't help more precisely. :(
An alternative would be to back up your Pocket PC, hard-reset it, note the change, and then restore and fix it. Not sure if it's worth the hassle.

Have you considered backing up the device, then hard reset and re-install as far as needed tillyou are able to get the reg key settings?
You can then export the setting, restore device from backup and import the relevant key.
Cheers
