I run Marsware WeatherPanel on my old iPAQ 5455 that I mainly keep as a backup in case my Axim X51v craps out on me for some reason. I noticed a couple of days ago that the weather data was not updating even when I manually tried to refresh the data. I haven't touched the settings so I'm figuring that the problem lies with the data source. I tried searching the Marsware forums, but they are nothing but spam and people complaining about spam. Is anyone else experiencing this same problem? Any solution?

I know the marsware.net site was hit by a malicious spammer and was moved to weatherpanel.net and also a wiki.
As I understand it, unlike other weather programmes, weatherpanel "phones home" every time it updates and the server is often down due to said spammer - hence no update. I liked weatherpanel a lot but stopped using it for that reason (and it seems to have been abandoned by it's developer). I currently use SBSH Pocketweather which is a very fully featured programme with execellent development and support. I would reccommend you give it a try.

I use SBSH PocketWeather on my primary device (Axim X51v). I retained WeatherPanel on my old iPAQ simply because it didn't take up as much memory as PocketWeather. I have lots of memory on the Axim but the iPAQ has only 64MB of RAM to play around with and I have a ton of other applications. Thanks for the explanation of the spam situation. I was not aware of the change in web address. I removed WeatherPanel from the iPAQ, deleted all registry entries to it and reinstalled the software. Now it seems to be operating OK and I have been able to download data.

Not entirely true. Dedicated users of WeatherPanel setup their own website (weatherpanel.net) since the old one was not being moderated (the author, martian, has long disappeared). The wiki as I understand it is still on the marsware.net site, but since the nature of wiki's allows anyone to make changes, it's a little easier to ckeep clean.

On an interesting note, the marsware.net website did automatically renew earlier this year (apparently whatever host the website is on is paid through so many months/years, and they automatically renewed the domain as part of that service contract).

I personally don't recommend anyone purchase the software now, but for those (like me) who bought it in its heyday, I say keep using it 'til it dies. :) (Or until Pocket Weather adopts some sort of similar skinning capability.)

Sorry, didn't know the whole story. And your'e right about skinning but thats something that doesnt interest me. I just want the data. PocketWeather does have some lovely icons' though.

Pocket Weather has been getting better. Still not crazy about the sources of data (although vastly improved over the earlier versions), and I would like at least a better, easier way of arranging items on the screen. I also have some issue with how you "scroll" through things in the details pages, but other than that it's great.

To be honest, I'd not noticed any problem, but then I had to reset my handheld anyhow...

Just rechecking now, nope, seems up to date.
